He kept his political leanings private. He was even handed in his treatment of political figures in his monologues.

Who knows, but I do know of a lot of former DNC voters of his age group that left the party a long long time ago.  DNC voter of the 50's, 60's, and 70's does not necessarily equate to a DNC voter of the present era.

And that is what made him the success that he was, his impartial treatment of everyone. You would not have seen him talking about teenage rape.        And Letterman wonders why he was passed over for the Tonight Show.

This.... I dont GARA WHO someone Votes for. MY problem is when they use their position to Shill for one side or the other.  As Laura Ingraham said, "Shut up and Sing"  If i'm paying $100.00 a ticket to see someone perform Music, AFAIC a 20-minute Political Rant is theft.

If Letterman wasn't such an asshat he might have learned a thing or two from Johnny.

I used to watch Carson every night.

I saw his final show, then never watched the Tonight Show again.

RIP Johnny and Dom.

Two real class acts.

TV producers could learn a lot if they watched the old Carson programs. You don't have to be vulgar to be funny.

And Carol Wayne...wow, I had forgotten all about her!

Sounds suspicious:

In January 1985 Wayne and her companion Edward Durston were vacationing at the Las Hadas Resort in Manzanillo Colima, Mexico. After an argument with Durston, Wayne reportedly left to take a walk on the beach. Wayne's body was found three days later in the shallow bay by a local fisherman.  In her final interview on The Tonight Show, while discussing her role in her upcoming movie Surf II, Wayne told Carson she couldn't swim.

After the discovery of Wayne's body, authorities discovered Durston had checked out of the resort the day the couple argued, leaving Wayne's luggage at the airport. An autopsy performed in Mexico later revealed no signs of drugs or alcohol in Wayne's body.[3] Her death was eventually ruled as "accidental".

Carol Wayne was cremated.  At the time of her death, her son Alex was approximately 13 years old.

In 2000 the series Mysteries and Scandals explored the circumstances surrounding Wayne's death.
