I finally got a large packet from the BATF yesterday with some books and papers in it. What I don't see is a liscense of any type. THere are forms for change of address liscenses and theft loss forms. THere is also a sheet about ordering more forms. THere was a sheet stating that the safety book is backordered, but nothing with a liscense number on it. My questions are; does the liscense come later? is it one of the things i have to order off of that order form? I would like to be able to send out copies of it to some places, how long after I get the packet do I get the liscense?

I'm sure some of you guys know how this works.
Thanks.

The liscense will come within the next two weeks, they mail it seperately (from a different location, IIRC, Texas for the liscense, DC for the packet).

Actually, the license comes from Atlanta and the publications come from Springfield, VA.  Texas is just the place that collects the money for the license fees.  They forward the application to Atlanta.

Kinda curious....

Does a C&R license give the BATF the ability to search your home at any time they choose?  Thought I saw that somewhere in the rules and regs.

No, no home inspections. They can inspect your books, but you have the option of having the inspection at your place or the ATF office.

Just a heads up to save you some trouble if you don't already know. DO NOT sign your original license. You have to make copies of it and sign each one in ink. Enjoy and prepare to stay broke! [:D]

You're lucky you got in under the wire.  I jsut received a mailing (I think to all FFLs) that the BATF has not been receiving/opening mail for a while now.

Shit, I sent mine in 3 1/2 weeks ago.  It's probably not even delivered yet.

I downloaded the forms off of the batf's web site. You just download the pdf files then print two copies on legal sive paper, fill them out, give one to your chief LEO and send the other one in to the BATF.

Just received everything for my C&R. What type of bound book are you exactly talking about. Let me in on what I need to do. You guys tell it easier to understand than the legal foreign language.

About 4 days after receiving my C&R I started receiving the packets at the rate of 1 a day for 4 weeks, I got a big run around trying to stop them from mailing any more.

You should probably double check this for accuracy before using:

There's a small ad on the front page of the "Gun List" selling bound books etc. I think I paid something like $18.00.
I had looked for years for an ArmaLite AR-18 New-In-the-Box - found one and that moved me to get my C&R.

I also keep a backup copy of the same information on my Palm (just in case).

Dude, what happens when you wash your hands?

H. Ranger, you write the info on the left palm - the one you don't wash.
