Is there any particular reason that certain members here feel they need to resort to obscenities during our "time of crisis"..?

It seems that many of the SteyrAug groupies have crawled out from under the woodwork and are breaking just about each and every one of the personal attack and obscenity rules, but feel that since there seems to be a split between the STAFF and MEMBERS, they can get away with it.

Suddenly, the "CPMB" (Coalition for the Prevention of Member Banishment) has taken to rather abusive verbal protests in a less than feeble attempt to resurrect their almighty and noble superhero!

Why is it that these guys should suddenly be above reproach..?  Is it because they have already put the STAFF on the defensive edge, and are hoping to martyr themselves in the process, or is it that they know that no STAFF member would dare take action now, with everything else going on..?  Personally, I can safely say it's the later, because I played that "Cat & Mouse" game for over 2 years!

Since the members of "CPMB" feel so strongly that the rules shall be equally enforced, I say banish all of them as well.

Remember, when the "Pied Piper" left town, the rats followed!

Are we not to curse?

There is no need for anyone to curse. The only thing needed at this point is no more "preemptive strikes" also known as making the rules up as you go along.

That appears to be a personal attack to me.

Can you handle your own medicine and take a banishment? I strongly doubt it.

That said, I'm glad AUG is gone and hope he doesn't return but I doubt that will happen either.

Actually, I was referring to the childrens fable... but it applies equally well in certain situations! [rolleyes]

Maynard, although I haven't seen the declines you mentioned, but if you are indeed correct, could it also possibility be the result of people who visit here to learn about, and discuss firearms being driven off by topics like BOTD, or how a womans privates smell?  No flame, just an honest question.

If someone wants to discuss firearms I would imagine they would do it the General Firearms discussion forum, not the "non-firearms" forum ya think? I mean isn't this forum specifically for NON-FIREARMS discussion, hence the name?

I can tell you from detailed, extensive personal knowledge that that is a FACT.

Of course, being the good Joe that I am, i have attempted to make up for this decline in traffic ALL BY MYSELF with extensive postings on this site.

"Get a grip people..."

The subject should have read:

"Get a gripe people..."

Or at least that's the way it seems sometimes.

About personal attacks, in my opinion, you guys are taking this much too seriously.  antiUSSA called me a (excuse the language) dumbass several times last week.  Did I call for his account to be revoked?  Did I hurl obscenities back at him?  Did I start other threads on the topic?  Did I try to make a martyr of myself?  The answer is no to all of those questions.  Heck, I even like the guy and greatly appreciate his contribution here.  We just disagreed on a topic that he felt strongly about.  I wish some of the posters here could be more rational and think twice before hitting submit.z

But, it is NOT a porno site!

If you want porno go to that type of site not a "firearms" in general site where you get upset when "firearms" enthusiasts protest the smut.    jackpot

I for one do not tune into this site for porn or scorn. If people want to delft into these things then take them to where they belong, sites that cater to these things. Last I checked I come to this site for the sole purpose of getting and giving info as it relates our beloved AR15 and its sidekicks. I really don't know or even care what people do behind closed doors, that's why they made them.
Now you open that door and expose these things, what do you expect to happen? My vote, PORN FREE SITE.

No, those rules are to be enforced. But new rules are not to be made up by rookie GD moderators.

The staff still doesnt get it. Nobody cares about BATD, its the arbitrary decision to close a thread that had not violated the TOS that caused this rift.

AR15fan, maybe the early locking of that thread was a bit early, but every one of those threads had gotten out of hand before. While some folks posted pics that were ok, there were always some who just had to push things past the limit. Maybe BigPig was anticipating what was sure to come.

Guys,

I was kidding around. If we are not to use the "f" word or G__Damn, so be it, and I totally agree that BOTD should not be porn, that's what the stile project is for, not this.

I like the attitudes here and still don't have my own AR or FAL, but enjoy the banter and discussion of everything.

I do like stirring the S__T and rail on people now and then, but the main thing I like is that it's not like The Firing Line that the mods jump on a thread as soon as someone gets a little personal.

[soapbox]

IMHO

Cheers and let's bring back Steyr

What the hell is going on around here?  Traffic is obviously down, but the content has hardly changed since I started posting (granted that hasn't been a trmendously long time).
One of the reasons I liked this site initialy was the controversial topics incited by posters like McUzi... I hardly ever agreed with people like that, but the responses to those posts were usually intelligent and thought provoking, and showed the overall decency of the members of the board.  I saw what SteyrAUG wrote, and he most definately could've come up with something more sublime than calling the MOD a "scumbag asshole"... but I can't say I think he should've been banned  for it.  The guy was a prolific poster and usually had good advice to give, and contributed more to this board than most of the people here.  All I'm getting at is that maybe, in light of what he'd contributed in the past, you'd forgive an indiscretion and only suspend him for a while.  I mean shit, the guy could'a just had a bad day... came here to relax and felt he was getting ripped on by a MOD, and lashed out. It happens.
If he was doing it consistantly, that'd be another story.

I don't have a dog in this fight. But from a business stand point I don't think the management has handled it very well. It seems to have gotten personal. While that makes for interesting reading for me it is bad business. I would bet that the banner advertisers pay on the number of hits. I will also bet that when the general discussion forum started the hits went way up. From the attitude that I see from the moderators on this situation is the customers can basically pound dirt. This will eventually drive them away. Thus less hits/less advertising money. I have heard mentioned that if you are not a paying customer that you shouldn't be able to comment. I would submit that even non paying customers are considered hits by the banner advertisers, thus a valuable commodity. I really like this site and would hate to see it disappear.

Granted Maynard, you bring up some interesting points, but once again, could the actions of the admins and mods be the result of some members who choose to act like rioting prisoners?  As with all things, any action causes an equal reaction. You are right on the mark about cooler heads. They need to come from both sides.

People, just remember that we had a similar furor when moderators were created and given authority in the first place. More than a few members didn't like it and chose to leave. I didn't really care for it at the time, either, but chose to stick around and I'm glad I did. In retrospect, moderators were and still are needed because of a minority of members who are unable to control or police themselves. Not only did AR15.com and the General Discussion forum survive, but it has thrived. AR15.com combines being the best and most informative firearm website in existence with a relatively wholesome atmosphere, and will continue to be and do so with or without SA and his band of merry men.

If SA had been asked to limit BOTD to only one thread and chose not to abide by that request, BigPig was entirely appropriate in locking down subsequent threads on the issue.

I only stop by occasionally, but as far I can tell, anti-USSA as no business being a moderator.   I was all ready to buy a LEGP rifle, but after observing his behavior in the LEGP forum, I decided that I couldn't trust a petty egomaniac with a thousand bucks.... since he was at the heart of the LEGP, that meant no AR for me.  I've talked to 3 people who decided not to buy one for exactly the same reason...
