In your opinion what is the overall hands down best car of all time?
-Reliability -Maintenance -Fuel Economy -Engine Design My vote gos for the Chevy Cavalier 2.2EcoTech. The Ford Escort being a very close second. |
lololol Fuel economy, yea right! |
VW Bug.....
Hands down the longest lasting, chapest and easiest car to work on.... |
I second the original beetle , best car for its day , designed in the '30s. I think still produced in brazil or mexico today.
It's gotta be the Volkwagen Beetle. What else can even come close?
FTW. |
Ford Crown Victoria. Almost every taxi cab that I get into has over 300,000 miles on it
+1 I love mine, its got plenty of pep and gets 32mpg on the highway...and its 10 years old. |
-1 cheap does not= reliable they were total junk you can still get them new in mexico nough said |

You actually ever worked on one? |
C6 Chevrolet Corvette.
400 hp and 28mpg. Compared to other competitive performance cars it is cheap. |
Yup, great little cars. I might put the Civic in that class too. |
A few. I mostly avoid older stuff. You would be amazed at how these will hold together even when neglected. Its truly impressive to see hardware like door hinges and latches and such that just never seem to wear out. Hell I've got 280K on original plug wires on my Gas powered benz. |

I put over 250k on a 93. |

No doubt in my mind its the volkswagen beetle. The simplicity and quality of design are unmatched by anything else. We had one that my mom bought new in 1970. my brother rolled it on the highway going about 70 in 1997. Tipped it over and drove it home. It lasted almost 30 years on 3 motors including the original. Was still driving on the original transmission and axles. So every ten years, just spend 1500 bucks and get the motor rebuilt. No 2wd car can match its traction in snow and ice. It floats. |
How do you figure? VW Beetles are bulletproof, reliable, easy to work on, have extraordinary aftermarket, and are quite economical. At least in my experience. Sure, they aren't exactly comfy or posh, but 20-something million were made. For a reason. -p. |

I've got an 85 300DL... Its... Very German(tm). Its a total disaster to work on as a result. A Volvo of the same vintage has farm tractor like simplicity. |

22R is 22 the HP rating toyota = gutless |

I have to admit that I had never thought anyone would ever be able to add the words:
Chevy + cavalier to = "greatest car of all time" |
Honda Accord, the overall balance of reliability, style, quality, price, performance, overall cost value is unmatched.
The Prius will end up going down as the grand daddy of the gas mileage movement when years pass and this question is asked again. |
yeah they were cheap ...werent their engines made of magnesium ?thats why you see them alongside the road on fire.and their heaters sucked we used to have to use a bic lighter to defrost the windows in the winter.. the 64 mustang was a fine car and so was the chevy 2 |

For my purposes, my 5.9 Cummins Ram is pretty close.
Lots of power, capacity, range, and it still gets 20mpg. |
