5 rounds?

A 12 Guage revolver would be too heavy, thus the .410 I guess.

In first!

Edit - Or not....

In any case, the .410 in a pistol was something I never understood either.

Well, before we left the range, I decided to have some fun.  I brought some clay pigeons and threw them up with my left hand and shot them with the birdshot.

It was fun and easier than I thought it would be.

photos.ar15.com/ImageGallery/Attachments/DownloadAttach.asp?iImageUnq=55267

I brought 10 clays and managed to bust 9 out of 10.

Looks like fun!

... of course, if I tried it, I'd be lucky to HIT 1 out of 10.

I've shot clays with a Walther P99 using Gold Dots.

You can learn.

Although you'll still probably never be as good as me...but you should try anyway.

Was thepenetration no good cause of the short barrel?

I've always wondered what this li'l guy under my bed would do to a BG.

Wouldn't do nearly as much as a 12 gauge loaded with 00 Buck or Slugs.

For bad guys, not so much, unless you have it loaded with .45 LC cartridges.  But then again, there are better pistols for the .45 LC.

The S&W Model 25 comes to mind.

Outstanding post once again!

The judge concept didn't appeal to me, but for taking out snakes while walking in the woods it appears ideal.

I'm sure the short barrel has slightly less velocity than a longer barrel.

But no .410 load is going to be very effective.

It might make him bleed to death in 30 minutes or so.  But you better hope he isn't shooting back at you, or you won't be around to see him expire.

The question is:  Why use such a weak sister of a shotgun, when a 12 gauge is available?

It just doesn't make sense.

Mossberg had marketed that shotgun towards women who couldnt take the full recoil of a 12 or 20 gauge.

I could be mistaken, but I think Taurus already makes a dedicated .45LC snubby...

Looks like the .410 revolver is more of a novelty than anything.

Edit to say... "Yup... .45 snubby ? they sure do.."

Rifle barrels cause the shotwad and contained shot to spin. Once it exits the barrel the spin placed on the shot causes it to spread out prematurely.

Great job, OP!

Seems like a gun that a person would get after having all the ones he ever wanted--just to have it.

This BoT probably shot down most guys' thoughts of potentially buying one.  It's just an extremely limited gun in its usefulness.

Ya know...  I was perusing around the Taurus site and found this...

A snubnose .454 Casull...

How friggin INSANE must one be to shoot this beast ?

I had the .454 Raging bull several years ago...  and couldn't imagine what kind of recoil you'd get from a little snubby version...   That's just sick.

My hat is certainly off for Taurus...  in that they are not shy about trying new combinations...   I see they also have a "Raging Thirty"...  .30 Carbine revolver.

I don't intent to refute OP's findings, but I hace friend who took a Doe with his judge using buckshot.

Don't know the shot load, range, or shot placement, just him telling about taking one.

He's not a "That ain't nuthin' cause I did this _____" type fella either, more matter of fact.

I had been contemplating a Judge as a SHTF tool. Useful to bag small game with, and still capable of stopping bigger game (though not too big) or people in the .45LC.

Now I'm not so sure.

They would sell more of them if it was in a heavier frame and able to shoot .460 and .454 as well. I'm geussing it would change it from a $450 piece to a $650 piece, but people would appreciate the extra versatility.

Looks like it would be just fine for small game, snakes, and small birds. It would also be a fun little plinker. Nothing else though, but who says it has to be useful to have?

Great post! You brought back some memories, when I was younger we used to attempt to shoot trap with Contender pistols in 410, I don't think we ever came close to winning, but it always amazed people that we could hit anything at all shooting trap with a 10 inch pistol. Are 2 1/2 inch shells even made any more? I know I haven't seen any in along time.....

We've got a .410/45LC Thunder five that we carry around on the farm.  It's a great little snake/field rat gun for the tractor or Gator. That Taurus looks a little more refined than this ugly beast.
