Well it is finally done.

I took a Chinese POS $10 fiberglass stock and after LOTS of filing and epoxy work, fit it to a Russian SKS.

Here is raw stock, which took 4 hours just to the gun to seat in the stock followed. by close to 10 hours of epoxy fitting. Then came another 4 hours of smoothing out the whole thing with sandpaper.

Stock after 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of premium Rustoleum matte black paint.

Stock hardware after refinishing with Brownells baking lacquer.

And finally after everything was put back together.

I figure close to 20 hours on this thing. According to the Brownells recommended price guide for gunsmithing (fitting semi-inletted stock, stock finishing, bedding, and metal refinishing) I should be charging AT LEAST $300, but all they want to give me is $10 and a McDonalds Supersize Quaterpounder combo meal. Makes me want to kick someone's ass.

It looks nice. I was wondering does the stock feel strange with an exposed coat of matte black paint on it? I would have sealed it somehow.....

OK, so now you have a .38, 10/22, Russian SKS, and a preban M1A? Something fishy is going on here...

The SKS and the M1A ain't mine.

I was told "switching the SKS stocks would be easy! I'll give you $10 to do it". Ya right. I SHOULD keep the thing out of spite.

The M1A pic was wrongly named SKS and I accidently posted it. It was another one of those "it will be easy" jobs.

It feels soft and nice. I think it would be something like a womenz skin if I ever get me some so I can make a comparison.

One valuable lesson I learned is that 4 coats of paint is thick enough to mess up pre-paint measurements. I almost didn't get the receiver past the crossbolt even though it fit nicely before, but on a plus note, the fit is damn tight.
