MM beats GJ anytime.  GJ isn't bourbon either, so it doesn't really compare.

But there is better out there.

MM is my standard though, my go-to whisky.

I love MM, but I think that Jack old no. 7 is smoother.  I like the taste of MM over Jack though.  Woodford Reserve is great too, but it has a little more bite to it than MM, IMO.

First in with Knob Creek.

I have Wild Turkey 101 and Woodford's Reserve in addition.

Rounding out the whisky I have on hand is a bottle of Talisker 10.

Crown Reserve, MM, JD, Bushmills....in that order......unless you have Captain Morgans and a diet Pepsi.

Knob Creek (easy to find in California), followed closely by Woodford Reserve. I actually alternate between the two depending on mood.

+1.  There's Bourbon and everything else . . .

GJ is "Tennessee Whiskey" and NOT Bourbon, no matter what some people may think.

MM has been and remains my favorite.  I just bought a bottle of Knob Creek, based on a recommendation here on ARFCOM.  I must say that I am a disappointed.

I asked for bourbon opinions a few months back, and someone suggested Basil Hayden. Not gentle on the wallet, but it is damned fine whiskey.

I really like Woodford Reserve, but I've been drinking MM since I was 16, and I think my palate has adapted to the point that I can't get as hooked on anything else.

The two I keep on hand are MM and Woodford, the Woodford probably comes out 1/5 of the time.

MM's my standard. If I feel like shelling out a couple more bucks I go with Woodford Reserve. If I'm feeling daring I go with Booker's!!!

Some of my fave's:

Blanton's
Evan Williams Single Barrel
The older style Woodford Reserve

I still need to try some Knob Creek one of these days.

As far as I'm concerned Bookers True Barrel is the definition of what bourbon should be.

"Bookers" = NONE better!

"Lip-numbing/128-proof pure sipping bourbon!"

However, I hear "Woodford's Reserve" is close?

I like all of the brands mentioned so far - I would say that the Woodford Reserve is the smoothest I've come across.

Basil Hayden Bourbon is the best bourbon I have ever tasted. Ever.

I have drank Jack, all three, Makers Mark, Bulliet, Knob Creek, and many others. None compare to this wonder drink.

Read about it here.

Evan Williams Single Barrel is my standard go to bourbon.  Blanton's is great but I've only had it by the shot.  If you want a Canadian Whisky, go for 40 Creek.

Bookers?!  If the OP is looking for smooth, this is definetly not it.  It's, what, 126 proof?  That'll blow your sack off.

Edit:  +1 though, damn good, don't get me wrong.

Jack Daniel's Single Barrel. Now THAT is a treat. Have a glass of that with a great cigar and you are set.

Agreed.  This is right up there with the best of them.  Someday, i'll buy a whole barrel........

Securing your own personal stock of Jack Daniel's whiskey is a rare investment. The total price will depend on your barrel's yield and local taxes. However, you can expect to pay between $35 and $40 per bottle.  The barrel price will range from $8400 to $9600.

Nose: Outstanding aroma, kicked off by a spicy prickle. Satisfyingly deep, gentle vanilla-ed and molassed with even a sprig of sweet mint.

Palate: A rip-roaring waxy sweetness checked by a big build up of vanilla-rich oak. Corn is chewy and rye offers a rich textured background.

Finish: Dries at last as the oak takes command, but rye offers extra depth and a layer of bitterness as does a lingering licorice.

Comment: Big, moody, uncompromising and complex beyond belief.

One of the world's great whiskies.
Jim Murray, Whisky Magazine

Wine Enthusiast rating: 93

Burnished gold in color, this Bourbon brings a mélange of aromas to the nose: honey, vanilla, oak, toffee, and a suggestion of coriander are all there. The body is big, and on the palate, this becomes a very spicy, masculine whiskey with a complex spicy mustiness and notes of leather, tobacco, overripe oranges, and a surprising smokiness not often found in a Bourbon.

The finish is long and lush.
