I thinned em out quite a bit. I don't really know but I'm thinking around 40 or so. I'll probably start to build that up now that they are in the sub $10 range.

enough to fit in one large ammo can since it's all I would be able to carry
I have about 100, NIW, PRE-BAN, USGI mags, I have not bought much of anything since the lift of the ban.

What's the obsession with having that many mags?
You going to throw them on the ground when they're empty or what? I'd rather have 3-4 new rifles than $3000 worth of mags. |
I probably have the smallest amount of everyone here, at this point in life I only have one mag fed pistol in a major caliber, and thats my 1911. I have 12 mags for it. I only have one 10 round mag for 10/22...... although I have 5 for my MK II No other guns that need mags.
I usually have around 17-25 30rd mags. Sometimes I sell or trade a few, and if I'm at a gunshow and have an extra $10 I'll usually pick up another mag.
I have 0 mags for my 9mm AR so far. |
How long have you been here? |
Remember the Assault Weapons Ban? Most people here haven't forgotten. Also, for those who consider their rifles to be tools, it is important to have plenty of mags. When you train, mags get fucked up. The US military regards M16 mags as disposable items - plan accordingly. Regarding mags and ammo 1) Buy it cheap and stack it deep 2) It will never be this cheap again |

20~ 30rder 10~ 20rder I just cant see the need for more than that... I rather invest in ammo. I have couple beater mags for range work, everything else is almost brand new. But I do have a box full of mag parts... I can probably repair 10 mags with it. ~nb |
I've been selling off some pre-ban mags to a friend that still needs them and replacing them with brand new ones. Since 9/04 I've probably added about 40 mags to the total, so I guess around 150 30 rounders at the moment. That works out to a little over 20 per rifle.
I've probably got 50-60 mags but I am always looking for a good deal. Who's got mags in the $10 range now?
What is with you lounger jockies?! I cant even find any ammo at a decent price and you people have 20+ mags?!
+1 I just made a best guess... |
Somewhere between 20 and 30. With only two AR's, I really feel that's all I need. I want more but that's really all I need. I can say with confidence that there will never be a situation where I will carry 15 loaded Mags. I'm not a SHTF/Bug out/Bunker up fantasy type thinker.

Hey, it's like one of those pictures they show on TV when the Gov't says they siezed someone's "arsenal" or "weapons and ammunition cache". |
oh yeah? I only have 1, and it's an orlite....... |

currently between 18 and 30 (taking an inventory of current stock is on tomorrows to-do list). I voted <20,
about 7K in asst ammo Please friends, buy more mags/ammo.... for the children --VT |
Maybe if you had been shooting and owning these rifles for say 25 years like some of us, you might have some more stuff accumulated too. WTF do ammo prices have to do with mags anyway? |
I think I have 20 mags lost somewhere in the brassmobile...
I am a BIG 20round fan, they outnumber my 30rds 2 to 1 I know I have a bit over a case of Black Hills Blue Box in loaded mags, not sure what that comes to for price though. Come to think of it, I am not sure where all of them are.... |
Because Ive been sitting on the idea of buying mags or ammo and BOTH are sold out in the lowest places. |
Ditto here. I think I'll pick a few more USGI 20s, but until our next rifle is built, or if Congress flips, I don't see getting more than that. |
You up for shootin this weekend? I gotta celibrate! |

I've got OT at work |

So you buy them where you can, and deal with it. As one who was a serious shooter before the AWB and one who is even more serious now, let me tell you this. Buy what you think you need, and then get alot more. I was buying NIW GI mags for $6-7 apiece in the early 90s. I didn't get enough, so when the ban loomed I ended up spending alot more than I wanted to, and didn't get enough mags due to lack of funds. I ended up wearing out mags and breaking a few during those 10 years, and had to pay $22-25 apiece for replacements. Alot of my preban mags are pretty worn, but they still work. Most likely the next ban the Dems ram through won't have a sunset, and will probably ban either manufacture for other than military/LEO or outright ban transfers after the enactment date. They aren't stupid, and the next ban will be worse, trust me. So if all of a sudden such a ban was looming, what insane prices do you think the mags would bring then? Especially if you were faced with the prospect of NEVER being able to buy another mag legally? I say buy as many as you can afford, as soon as you can. You might as well buy a lifetime's supply while they're this cheap. It's not as if they'll go down in value. You could always sell them for a huge profit when the next ban looms anyways. Same goes with ammo. Your pretty gun is a fancy club without enough ammo. |

15 or so
I see no purpose for more. I never shoot more than 5 or 6 mags at the range per trip, and my "bug out bag" has 8 loaded mags in it. |
Have 40 AR mags on hand. Went a bit crazy when Bravo Co had the $9.45 sale on mags.
I have 50 FAL mags that I've had for a long time. I bought those when they were still $2 each waaaaay back when. |
So, you have started motivating some of us to go buy, where are some good deals at now?
I guess I am missing something....Mag's should equal Clout?
Thats a riot. |
I had so many mags, that I started giving them away at Christmas.
The trick to accumulating el-neato stuff like magazines, is to buy it in quantity when it is cheap. When FAL mags are being sold for $2-3 a piece, buy a lot! Same for G3 mags; last I heard they were selling for dirt cheap. Brand spankin new AR mags are now under ten bucks a pop. At the end of a SOF Convention in Vegas about a dozen years ago, the manufacturer was blowing out Thermold magazines for $5 a piece. I bought all I could. A couple years later, you couldn't find one for less than $50 in Southern California. After the next AWB, you won't have to sweat it. You'll already have it. |
Where's the best place to get new style GI mags? I’m also looking for the new HK(AR/NATO) mags…
I could care less about owning more than 10 mags per gun. I can't think of any REALISTIC situation where I'd need more than that. I'd rather put my money in buying more guns that I can enjoy, than having a few hundred mags that will just sit in the closet unused. If you're buying huge quantities of mags because you're speculating they will increase in value (investment) or you're competing in matches where you damage lots of mags, that's one thing. But if you think you're gonna have a real need for 100+ AR15 mags in your lifetime, you're simply nuts.
