HEY, I saw this topic and my heart lept! Then I opened it and saw a PATHETIC proposition... you do realize a man can't handle that type of misleading text. [=D][=D][=D][=D][=D]

I started up a thread so we'll see how it goes... I have no probelems moderating a post itself, but I also have no TIME to moderate things.

One other flaw in this is that by the time we get to an insult or racist comment in a thread, the thread has most likely had another 6-12 posts and has already lost focus... so at that point locking it up, even if the discussion was incredible is the proper solution. Also why we encourage the thread to be re-opened... I know its hard because the emotion is lost, but the thread is toast anyhow once its focus shifts.

The thing with a second "non-moderated" forum is that people will go in there who may just be looking for to equip themselves with ANTI material and to see topics like that would make us look bad, and I would feel responsible for it. It they go to another site to garner that ammunition, I can at least say that we're doing what we can to make us look good.

I'm saying I hardly have time to read things (except when I'm in the office... heehee) not to mention reading EVERYTHING.

Moderators and staff have lives too. That means jobs to go to, women to chase down, and guns to buy and shoot!

The problem with that is who the hell wants to WAIT around (meanwhile letting the topic DROP a few pages) to discuss something.

If I read something and feel inclined to comment on it, then I want to do so at that time, when my mind is racing with thoughts. The last thing I want is for the damn thing to be locked... Try shopping at a store where the owner closes it every time he is on the phone, going to the bathroom, and so forth.

I think we can try normal posts with people being responsible. If the topic, as in the past, goes over the edge or loses focus, then we lock it up.

Perhaps the key is more moderators, less moderation. Add a couple of head count to keep the real insulting crap out, while trying to keep ourselves and our padlocks off until the need presents itself.

It's no secret that the GD is hell to moderate because of the amount of posts that go through it. Nobody wants to read them all, I'm lucky if I get into 5 topics or more... I don't expect the guys to catch every single instance and I don't expect them to cater to users who complain about borderline comments. If we can get the big trouble spots as soon as possible, then we're doing good work.

I have another topic which has always bugged me and see how long that can last in this environment. It's a bit more touchy than the one about women...

Your idea of monitoring a thread closely is a good one Miss Magnum. I try to do that every time I'm here. Unfortunately like Gb said. we have lives beyond this board. A job,family,other commitments. I offered to mod because I'm a shift worker and I am online at bizarre hours. I realized long before I offered to be a moderator that what please's some members..won't please others. To be quite honest..that has no impact what so ever on my decision to edit,delete or lock a thread. If it breaks the user policy or conduct code or has turned into a waste of bandwidth because it lost it's direction or has turned into a pi$$ing contest..I'll deal with it. You pointed out in another thread that threads that bash women are often left alone. I along with other moderators agreed. So when the wet n wild thread appeared I locked it because from past experience I had a good idea where it was headed. You see..we are not here 24/7. So if we see a thread that is questionable..we have to make a decision. Let it go for now and hope another mod reads and deals with it if it get's out of hand. Or deal with it ourselves right then. Either way someone is not going to be happy. But that is life. I thought I understood what you meant in your e-mail..but apparently I didn't. If you care to explain it again..I'm not backshift this week and I might grasp what you are saying.[;)]
