I couldn't think of anything really cool for my 1000th post, but I have been addicted to Google Earth lately. Figured others might like coordinates too.
Washington Monument: 38 53 21.94 N, 77 02 06.96W Spaceport! Cape Canaveral: 28 36 28.88 N, 80 36 16.41W Mount Rushmore: Carrier in San Diego: 32 42 34.83 N, 117 11 18.30W Trinity Test Site (Manhattan Project, white washed for security?): 32 53 21.16 N, 106 23 35.36W Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial: 49 21 33.97 N, 0 51 21.26 W Halifax Citadel: 44 38 50.05 N, 63 34 48.94 W Coloseum in Rome: 41 52 24.45N, 12 29 31.27E Gitmo: 19 54 33.50 N, 75 11 12.00W USAF Academy Chapel: 39 00 30.54N 104 53 25.00W Pearl Harbor (fuzzy): 21 21 46.50N, 157 57 59.78W Hitler's Eagles Nest (fuzzy): 47 36 50.40N, 12 02 05.90E Washington, DC, Rome, Paris, London are EXCELLENT resolution. ... Go to Grand Canyon Arizona, tilt elevation down about 45° and rotate
... Let us know what you think |
WOW...
That's friggin COOL !!! If that type of image capability is available "free" to us lowly civilians, just imagine what the Govt can see... Just looked at the Washington monument, then tried to view the White house.... No luck. They have the resolution set real low so you can't view it. |

... Bumped for some more cool-ass sites.
... I have another, fly to Manhattan New York if you've ever been there. Turn on 3D buildings and again tilt elevation about 45° and rotate. You can fly around the city as if in a helicopter. |

this is such a cool program. Ronald |

With Google Maps/Satelitte you can plainly see Area51/Dreamland/Groom Lake -its searchable by Zip code -just look up Rachel NV and start panning west it noticable by the ultra white color of the (dry) lakebed . You can see Tonapah to the nothwest as well. |

... fiddy-cent to the first guy that can find a populated nude beach!

Not only rotate, but pan after you tilt. You can do a fly thru the canyon. CH |

It shows my truck sittingin my driveway. The world is too small.
Or you can double click on "Area 51" in the default "Sightseeing" places that the program comes with. |

Just look in 37 16 04.49 N, 115 47 58.13 W (Groom lake) Best viewed from 30K feet or so. |

It would be great to incorporate it into X-Plane or MS Flight Sim. You can get it to move and fly a route much like a flight sim without an aircraft.
That would be cool, only problem would be to store (or receive quickly enough) the MASSIVE amount of data (pictures and topographical information). But if it would be workable, that would be one of the coolest things ever, and it is VERY cool as it is right now! |

Here are some more coordinates in no particular order (some may be dupe, if so my apologies):

That puts me in the middle of Michigan. |
think this is it. 43 52 19 n, 103 32 49 w |
That's odd... I simply copied and pasted the coordinates. Oh well, do the others work at least? |
... Is it just me, or does there seem to be two distinct resolutions? Possible a third, and higher clarity version, but I may be mistaken.
... Your take please |
There are many different resolutions depending on the area. I have spotted 4 or 5
Mine shows my car in the driveway and my dog lying down in his spot by the back stairs! He's a BIG Golden Retriever... |
Nope, try 43 52 43.08 N, 103 27 32.25 W It is actually identified as such if you turn on the "Recreation areas" layer. When you compare the view with the map from Mr. Rushmore's web site everything fits. The only problem is that the actual faces are not seen due to the way the texture mapping works (they wrap around the surface of the mountain). Still, it's cool to see the parking lot and the gift shop! |
