I wouldn't have the slightist idea on what power I would need. But I'm shooting a regular National match of 200yds, 300yds, and 600yds.  So, I really don't need anything special, as long as I can see where I hit the target I'll be just fine.  Any ideas on power;brand;etc...?

Thanks

There were a few posts here earlier this year about a Russian Scope, 40x I think, that was pretty darn good and ruggedly built and was priced at only $79.00.

I don't recall which company had them for sale.

Anybody know which scope I'm referring to?

Anybody got any info or links?

Go to www.jgsales.com, click on 'online store', then click on 'optics', then click on 'spotting scopes'.  There you will see a Tasco 20-60 zoom with a 60mm front objective for $59.95.  I have one exactly like it and it works fine.  It also works pretty well for checking out the women up on the lighthouse catwalk.

What price range?
I would go with a good quality scope. Champions Choice, Kowa etc. On the other hand there is nothing better than good optics.
You can go from <$200 to >$1500 in range.
I use a Leica Televid 20-60x77mm angled.
With scope cover, and a Ewing 1" stand...$1400.

tippie: what is the highest you can go on the 20 to 60 power and not have distortion when using it at 600 or shooting 800,900 or 1000.
I know on a hot day a 25 to 27 power you can see holes at 300 but can you see holes out pass that with your leica? thanks jon

jc121,

It depends on the mirage.
The heavier the mirage, the lower I have to go on the zoom.
I can have it all the way up to 60x for the 200!
I keep it around 24 to 30 most of the time.
For the 1000yd line, I turn it all the way down, to reduce distortion.
On an overcast day, I can see .308 holes @ 600yds. .223 @ 300yds on a bright day with medium or lighter mirage.

I have about a 250 price range.--should've made that clear earlier.  Anyway, I would also need a stand and all the other accessories.  Are there any other cheap online stores besides J&G?  Is it possible to find an angled scope at the 250 price range?  Thanks!
