THIS SUCKS

My wife went somewhere on the net and picked up this virus called Trojan Alwayup (according to my Nortons virus detector. But the Nortons can not get rid of it. Don't know why, but it says it can not delete virus. The Nortons is the System Works 2003 version and has been updated.

When the computer is turned on and the net is accessed, about 10 minutes later, the virus kicks in and I get hundreds of pop ups one after another. I downloaded a pop up blocker from download.com which only partially works.

I ran Spyware Doctor which only kills most of it, then it comes back.

How the hell do I clean this out of my computer? (Dell w/XP Pro)

1. Wipe your computer clean back to the way you recieved it
2. Be more aware of what you are clicking or downloading
3. Stop going to porn sites
4. Install SP2, download Microsoft Anti-Spyware from Microsoft. com, along with installing your favorite anti-virus
5. Get rid of the Kazaa shit

The thing about spyware, is once you get it, it is a pain in the ass to remove. Try SpySweeper or AdAware also, and even download a trial anti-virus of Norton (New of course), remove the crap, and uninstall it if u don't want to pay for it.

type something like trojan alway up removal, or something similar into Google or another search engine. It should come up with several different sites that will walk you through the removal.

You have no one to blame but yourself.  Why are you letting her browse the web on an administrator account in the first place?  Getting rid of this trojan is a simple matter of killing tasks and editing the "Run" keys in the Registry so it won't restart.  If you can't do that, I suggest formatting and using the Restore Disc to start over.  And this time give your wife a User account so she won't be able to install this crap in the first place.

OK, so how does one go about editing the "run" keys and "killing tasks"?

I am sort of computer illiterate.

Tried to download this link and when I clicked on the download button the virus re-directs me to a "ERROR - NOT FOUND page using the following web address: //www.adsourcecorp.com/404_not_found.htm

This freakin' virus won't even allow me to download something that will kill it..... WTF?

+1 for Panda.  I haven't found a better antivirus out there yet.  I have AVG at work and Panda at home.  AVG is awesome as well.  Good luck.

To stop the pop ups, try Ad-aware.  Go to www.adaware.com.  Download the free ad ware/malware eliminator.  It is the best I have seen.
