I sure wish I had seen these two brakes before I had Wilson Combat install their A2 on my Colt. I also have an M15A2car that just came home from Kurts with his brake.the pictures do neither product justice. Bottom line, Wilsons brake looks really cheesey compared to kurts. The Wilson is ok I geuss but Kurts is just outstanding. Kurts looks like a suppressor, the slots are cut just like a real A2. I am not flaming Wilsons, just suggesting that anyone looking at Wilson Take a close look at Kurts, if you do, you will go with Kurts. My Colt is heading to Kurts to replace the Wilson. Anybody else share this opinion?

hey Crow, how does the finish match up ?
also, wilsons does not offer a extended version to bring 14.5 barrels out to 16" I have seen the pictures and it does look like a A2 suppressor. as soon as funds allow, I'm gonna ship my shorty AK off to have the extended brake installed. glad to hear it looks even better in person !! my only concern is if the finish will match. mine has mag phosphate and I think Kurt parkerizes. 51 out... Finish on Wilsons is closer to post ban black, Kurts is like SP1 grey, which stands out a little on the Armalite. Wilson wins the color match but it ends there. Sorry I am photo incompetent. the fricken groves on Kurts are just like an A2. The groves on Wilson are just straight slots. I wish both of them would post better close up pics on their sites. you got to see them together to see how much nicer Kurts is.

How do the these two compare to the one from Gunsmoke enterprises?
I have not seen Gunsmokes but just to clarify I really mean no negative towards Wilson. I was just amazed at how much Kurts looked like an A2.It is my own fault for not looking more carefully before I sent the Colt to Wilsons. Anyway, Mr. COLT will be on his way to FLorida this week. And no I do not know Kurt.

Where can I get a look at a Kurts brake? I have a rifle and was thinking of using a Wilson brake. If the Kurts is better i would like to know where I could go to see one. Do they have a website?

Kurt is on the Industry Forum here. (Kurts Kustom ) Also Wilsons would not mess with my Armalite Factory Brake, Kurt did and it is sweet

Kurts Kustom A2

I will consider Kurt's Brakes to be post ban legal as soon as BATF says so in writing. Wilson Combat already has their letter...
Of course you can pay your money and take your chances just like Tapco and DSA did. |
I can see in the pic above the differance in color on the extended brake. if I bought one does anyone know who could refinish it to match my bushmaster ? (manganese phosphate) instead of parkerized ?
gunsmoke had a extended brake which had 4 slots like Kurts but they changed it and now it has vertical slots. doesnt look as good IMO. Is Kurts going to get a batf letter ? I know matching finish may sound petty... but I want it to look right is that so wrong !!!!!! 51 out... [x] |
Butkus, The grey on Kurts is not that pronounced IMO. Thanks for the pics Lock&Load.
I think I will go with the Wilson Combat brake since they have the almighty letter from our friends at the ATF. [rolleyes]

Does anyone know if Kurts is in the process of getting batf approval ?
what are the chances that these may not pass inspection ? |
Sorry, guys, but I would like to hear more on this myself! BTT
I would look at the 3 port break that Ed at Gunsmoke sells, very clean and very affordable.

ATF has made their guidelines well-known. There are four issues that could make a muzzle attachment "bad," depending on what rifle you put it on. Those are:
- It can't reduce muzzle blast (noise), or it's a sound suppressor. - It can't reduce muzzle flash, or it's a flash suppressor. - It can't be 22mm in diameter, or it's a grenade launcher. - If it's threaded on, and not permanently attached with a BATF-approved method, it's a flash suppressor. Kurt's brake takes all of these issues into account. It doesn't reduce blast or flash, it's 24mm in diameter, and he permanently attaches it using a BATF-approved (welded blind-pin) method. Note too that a "letter" doesn't mean a whole lot. Tapco had approval for their brake, then a new person at ATF decided to redo the testing using totally different (and bogus) criteria. Suddenly, the brake was no longer approved, or something. DSA is taking legal action, and will probably get that decision overturned. -Troy |

Hey Crowboy, have you shot your rifle with the new Kurts brake yet ?
if so, hows the noise and flash ? does it interfere with sight picture ? I have the AK brake on my Bushy shorty and was wondering how they compare on flash, noise etc... the Kurts definetly looks better !! anyone else feel free to put your .02 in 51 out... [x] |

Just a question. This is not an attack. Why does GSE promote their muzzle brake as a recoil reducer, as well as a flash reducer? They even posted pics on their Forum. Are they saying this is only for Pre-Ban use? Just curious.

here's another comparison pic of Kurt's brake on a Bushmaster beside a preban Eagle Arms flash hider.

Dan, thanks for the pic.
HMMM, looks like a fellow could drill or ream out the end in a shtf situation and have a flash hider ?????? (just a hypothetical musing) [x] |
Know doubt, Kurt's brake is tops. I'll have one soon.... Damn Kurt, answer your e-mail! [:P]

Whats the noise level on the Kurt's brake like? Is it as bad as the "AK" and other brakes?
Mine is on a 16", its loud but nowhere near as loud as the BM M4 Y comp that I sold to buy this Armalite. Its tolerable . By the way, to be fair that color issue is a concern. Since posting this I have stared at my Colt with Wilsons black brake and my Armalite black barrel with its grey brake,Ilove the design of Kurts but I am getting more and more upset with the grey black mis match.
Wonder if Kurt could mag phosphate one or something like it for special orders ??
To be honest, and I know it sounds petty but the only reason I (and a couple of friends) haven't already had a kurts put on is the color match issue. my AK brake matches so why cant the kurts ? Noy bitchin just askin... |
Butkus, Your not petty, since all you guys brought the color issue up its been eating at me. When I first got my M15 back from Kurt I was so turned on with the style of his brake especialy compared to my Wilson that I did not want to admit how bad the match was. I have not contacted Kurt cause even if he would take care of it I dont want to give my rifle up for another 5 weeks, plus Kurt has to be aware of this. My biggest question is why does Kurt install grey brakes on black rifles?
Maybe someone knows if the barrel with brake attached could be refinished or some other suggestion ?? having the barrel done seems to be the easiest instead of R&R of the new brake and hit and miss color matching.
Yes there is a place that does phosphate re finishing. I got tht name from Bushmaster, National coatings 904 274 4027.I am having a hard time accepting paying Kurt $90.00 and then having to send my upper out and paying for new finish.WTF!
I agree...
but maybe he would be willing to help ? doesn't hurt to ask. HEY KURT WHERE ARE YOU !!! |
I think Kurt reads these boards alot. I think I have beat this horse to death, having said that I will not do any more business with him. By the way, I think he knows how to get a hold of me, end of subject for me. I would, however recommend getting a promise out in front on color match from KK.
