What say ye?

Timeframe?

Time to invest in some remote property, MRE's, more hardware?

Maybe it'll all work out?

No matter how much I squirm, the handbasket still feels damn uncomfortable, sir. Truth is, the only thing that takes my mind off it is more guns, more gear, playing music, and spending time with the wife. Not neccesarily in that order.

I hear slouching is bad for the posture...

I don't get it. In many ways, society is the best that it's ever been. Of course, the liberal media would like you to think everything's going to hell, but it isn't.

The world is more stable then it's ever been. There are more free democracies then there have ever been. People all over the world, including third-world countries, have better access to food and clean water then they have ever had.

Borrowing liberally from this,

When was the last time you walked a few blocks from your home and passed a brothel?
When was the last time you witnessed a lynching?
When was the last time you went to a carnival sideshow?

We're living in the golden ages. No man in all of history has ever had it as good as we do now, and it looks like it's going to get even better. So what, exactly, is everyone bitching about?

It ain't about the past. It's about the future. And you're right about the luxuries that we have. But you are failing to see the Great Almighty State's intrusion into our lives, people's greed and selfishness, the general WILLFUL ignorance of the populace, the emergence of celebrity "heros", the jealousy of so many nations in the world who'd like to see the U.S. crushed (back to selfishness and greed), etc. You can stick your heads in the sand and pretend that everything's great. But there are many who watch and wait for things to get REAL ugly. And I hope that you at least have the good sense to prepare for that possibility regardless of your rose-colored lenses.

There have always been enemies,
Science is bigger and better than it has ever been.
We have religous freedom,
We have personal freedom (within reasons of course)
We have freedom period.

I'm sure that in the civil rights era, most thought it was the road to decline.

Same with women's suffrage.

We (the U.S.A. ) are the light  with which the uncivilized nations warm themselves.

You speak of freedom and encroaching grovernment, and to an extent you are correct.  However, you neglect past transgressions probably because they didn't effect you.  For example, where I live, used to be a dry county.  That's correct, got boose, get arrested.  Why not ask a black in AL if todays state sponsored intrusions are better or worse than yesterdays enforced segregation or even slavery if you turned back the clock far enough.

I am not disagreeing with you in that the state actively wants more control of our lives.   What I am disagreeing with most of the posters on this thread about is the fact that too many view the past in an incredibly narrow context.

Are you seriously that pessimistic?

It's the same style arguments that the Democrats use against America. We aren't absolutely perfect, therefore we're horrible tyrants. This ignores that we're by far the most benevolent and free superpower that the world has ever seen.

Sure society isn't perfect. We have our problems. Some people say that those problems mean that we're all going to hell, but almost all of those problems have always been with us, and a lot of huge ones have all but vanished in the last century or two.

For example:

When have any of those things not been the case? People have always been greedy and selfish, often much more then they are now. The State has intruded much, much more in people's lives in both the near and far past. Yet we keep advancing anyways. How about the near-total disappearance of racism and sexism in this country ? And the emergence of independent media, especially through bloggers?

We're going to keep on advancing, most likely while a few pessimists still scream that we're all going to hell.

That's kinda the point. If there's anything like a lynching on TV, it's all make-believe. Nobody dies. There's nobody cheering for the actual death of an actual person.

I believe the process of pussification is so far along in the USA that it will take a major crisis (i.e. something that causes a fairly high atrittion rate among the sheeple and its attendant shock) to reverse the process.  Pusification is the cancer on our culture.  Some intervening event has to take place to reverse its advancement.

This is true, but the fact of the matter is that it is ON TV and AVAILABLE.  There is shit on TV and in movies and in magazines and in billboards that would have not been socially exceptable just a dozen years ago.  You may state that the media is just giving people what they want, and this is true to an extent BUT!!! it shows a CLEAR, MORAL DEGRADATION.  I don't want to see an ad for jeans with two men kissing, or just hinting at being ghey, I don't give a rats ass about a movie like "Kissing Jessica Stein" were it is all about discovering your "lesbianism"  There is some stuff that should NOT be general consumption.

On to the "real life" outside my front door.  Midtown Atlanta is like Gemorrah...  nothing screams societal breakdown more then that.  Then you have resegregation by victimhood and multi-culturalism, etc.
