I wonder if McDonalds would be interested in the copyright infringement we seem to have here?[?]

This recent spat is an excellent example of the decay of American society.  These yahoos are absolutely convinced it is their "right" to post whatever, wherever, whenever they want, without regard to others "rights".

It only takes a few to destroy a community or a society.

The "new world order" is coming, and it's because of idiots like this that America is becoming a cesspit.

(rant mode off)

Thank you, Ed.

Actually, McDonald's DOES take such infringements on it's name very seriously. There was a local instance where a guy with the last name McDaniel opened a quick lube shop under the nam McLube and was served with a lawsuit from McDonald's shortly thereafter. Apparently McDonald's feels that they have exclusive rights to the "Mc" prefix and are willing to dig into to their deep pockets to prove it. Needless to say, fighting such a lawsuit would have been prohibitively expensive with an uncertain outcome at best and the shop no longer uses that name.

I think you mean trademark infringement; it'd be more of a trademark dilution claim.  And I know McDonald's takes trademark enforcement very seriously. They will go after just about anyone or anything that uses the "Mc" prefix.

(Sorry Boomer - didn't mean to copy your post - I just didn't see it before I posted.  You're right though.  I'm a lawyer specializing in copyright and trademark, and let me tell you, McD's will protect their marks more vigorously than almost any other company in the world)

First off, I agree with Ed actions, as this is a PRIVATE owned/operated board,

however I disagree emphatically with your arguments.

This is America, we DO have the right to say whatever we like, it's in our Constitution.  I don't agree with a lot of what is said over there, but that doesn't take away their birth right of freedom of speech.

I also don't agree with a lot of what is said on the streets of America, on TV in the media, etc., doesn't mean those thoughts should not be expressed, simply because I object to it.

You say the "New World Order" is coming because of "idiots like" them.  Well, you're right about the first part, but dead wrong about the second part.  The NWO and political correctness is coming because of folks like yourself, who are willing to give up your right to free speech so people won't get there feelings hurt.

Some of those folks on that other board, may be vulgar, offensive, racist, immature, ignorant, etc., but at least they have the guts to stand up for there rights and say "hey, here's my board, I can say whatever I want here."

AR15.com is the best gun board on the net, but I commend McUZI for starting a board where he can say whatever he likes.  You all should be happy that he has his board, so now he'll spend less time here, expressing those views you find 'offensive.'

This is AR15.com, and yes they need to stop there offensive links on this board, but people here need to stop whining about what goes on at that 'other' board, because you're only drawing attention to that which you hate so much by your complaints.

FWIW, I have a hard time believing our founding fathers had any intention of protecting the vulgar trash we see so much of today. I think the 1st Ammendment is more about being able to freely disagree with the government without fear of reprisal than anything else.

Exactly. This is not a 'Free Speech' issue, or 'censorship' or 'NWO'.

This IS all about respect.

Respect for the owners of this board. Respect for the other members of this board. And, ultimatly I think, respect for one's self.

Sure the framers of the Constitution desired free speech. Remember, however, they also used to routinely shoot rude morons who insulted them with dueling pistols. Thus, most intelligent people thought about what they were saying, as the consequences of stupidity could be very real.

An armed society is a polite society, someone once said...

If guys want to look at trash let them go to McUzi.com. I wish everbody would stop bitching back and forth. The Mods are doing a Great job of cleaning up the boards. I wish guys would stop posting the nasty stuff but there is no way to stop it except to ban their IP. I hate it for all the guys who have been offended. I am pretty thick skinned but some of that stuff is way bad!!

I hate the 3500 character limit.

You read into my response something other than was in there.  I never said they didn't have a right to "free speech".  I said that
These yahoos are absolutely convinced it is their "right" to post whatever, wherever, whenever they want, without regard to others "rights".

Rights have corresponding responsibilities.  One of the responsibilities associated with free speech is the responsibility to not do unnecessary damage to the society that you live in.  Another is to recognize that your right does not exceed someone else's.

"Political Correctness" is most definitely an outcome of the "free speech" question.  Speech has always been limited - it used to be limited by A) self-control, and B) social pressures (remember the concept of "shame"???)  However, now that the ACLU claims that "there's no such thing as a bad idea" in their defense of the NAMBLA web site, the powers of "Political Correctness" state that it's OK to say anything you want - as long as it's on the approved list.

Kiddie porn?  Protected by "free speech".

Fifth-grader's drawing weapons on notebook paper?  "Bad speech" not so protected.

If you don't think that the racism et. al. that McUzi spouts is damaging to the society in which you live, then I don't think you're paying attention.

I'd just rather combat it through social pressure than by legislation.  OK?

It doesn't take "guts" to be offensive when there are no consequences.

ipschoser1, do you also have a hard time believing the Founding Fathers would approve of assault rifles being protected by the 2nd amendment? If you don't like what's on your T.V.,turn the channel or turn it off. If you don't like a particular movie, don't go see it or if you did, why did'nt you walk out? If you don't want your kids playing a certain video game, don't allow it in your house. I could go on and on.....Ben Franklin said "People willing to sacrifice a little Freedom for a little security deserve neither" or words to that effect. Ben was right. If you guys who claim to hate McUzi would just ignore his posts, he would look elsewhere for his attempts at antogonizing people. Don't get me wrong I'm here mostly to talk AR's and gun related topics, but I have apprecited the occassional OT humor post as well. I just skip a post if I just know it's gonna offend/incencse me. Most of the time it works. The times it don't I just click on the back button real quick...
