No matter how much you appreciate your father, it isn't enough. I have been fatherless since Christmas Day '70. I was 15 and Dad was 53. Not a day goes that he doesn't cross my mind. Same goes for your mom. Lost mine in '75. Though I take some measure of self-satisfaction in having been on my own since I was 19, I gladly would have traded a measure of full independence for the counsel of good parents.

Would that be the spoils of war? |
I somewhat understand. Never met my dad, who died in 1991 and now it's too late. My mom and I didn't speak for a few years either. |
Uh, yup! Always wondered why Dad had a little grin on his face during those MASH episodes where Hawk and the boys go to Tokyo on leave. When he showed me this pic last year, the first words out of my mouth were, "Me love you long time, Joe". LOL! |

I always liked that picture. Those guys have this look like, "Lets' get us and 100 Japs in a closed room and settle this shit once and for all." |
Doesn't look spoiled to me. |
Damn your dad looks hard core in that pic. |
My guess is that is the before pic. The after pic when BayEagle Sr. was done looks a little different. |
I never asked him, but I'd guess "before". They both look remarkably unmussed. BTW- check out the reach-around my old man is putting on ol' Geisha babe. Looks like the Richie Cunningham technique on copping a feel.
They already had...it was taken AFTER the raid on Jap POW camp Cabanatuaan. |
How does your mom feel about that pic? eta- I am guessing she has never seen it. |
You gotta figure, that was almost 20 years before they got married. She thinks it's pretty funny. Judging by comments, I think there are pictures worse than that from his time in Occupied Japan. |
I gotta dig up a digital pic too... Ghost Soldiers is an excellent book, I highly recommend it. |
No pics of Dad - sorry. He was a Gunsmith, and a Farmer, and served 8 years in the National Guard. Gone for nearly 10 years now, but sometimes it feels just like yesterday.
RIP Dad - miss ya Eric E |

Wow Stoney, I'm taken back. I'm reading that now.....and my dad is from the P.I. Anyone who hasn't, needs to read it. Words fail me, you have to read it. |

I wish I had the picture of my dad in a full tribal headdress
We lost the picture when my parents split up Samuel |
I don't remember a time in my life that I was not a Raiders fan. We lived in Sacramento when I started watching football and it was either them or the Niners. Now I live in the heartland of the beast (Chiefs). I have a soft spot for the Niners, but I hate all other teams. Go Raiders! |
Grew up around Denver, and in Montana. Go Broncos. Sorry to post in this thread. |
Looks like it will be me and you in our division this year. At least we can both agree on a common hatred of the Chiefs. |

My Dad
He fought in WWII as a catapult operator on the carrier USS Macassar Straight in the Pacific theater. I have his diary that he kept while in the war; it is so cool to read. CW |
I only have a few pics of my dad, I need to make them digital.

My dad never served, his own father died when he was but 12. So back in those days(Mexico) he had to drop out of school and work to support his family. Eventually he made his way to the good ole USA and after a few years sent for his young bride(my mom) and a few years later I was born in California.
I appreciate seeing all the pics of your dads, and I deeply appreciate their service to our country and making it posible for me and my family to live in freedom, thanks to wedge1082 for this thread. |
Thanks to your Dad for his sacrifice to bring his family to America. |
There you go Cold_Warrior! Tell your dad thanks the next time you talk to him! BigDozer66 |

That is my Grandfather in the center back row, a Naval Aviator & Lt. Cmdr with his crew during WWII - he was stationed in Bermuda and was flying anti-submarine and SAR ops in PBY's. There are some more military pictures of him here |
Great thread, wedge.
I wish I had the emotional strength to participate. |
Post a pic and see where it goes from there. |
So far this thread is confirming what I suspected... We here at ar15.com come from some good stock.
Keep those Dad tribute's coming! |
I'll post my pic in here when I find one of my the is digital. He pased away in '95 and I miss him every day.
Thank you so very much BD66. He's in France right now, so when he gets back I will thank him for you. BTW, from what he tells me France is alot like California; the major cities are home to the cheese eating surrender monkeys while the rest of the country is populated by normal people that like the US and appreciate what we did for them and the world. My Dad died in 1995 at the age of 85. He was drafted at the age of 31 in March of 1942 and served with the 3d ID in "Operation Torch" the invasion of North Africa Nov 1942. He won the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with "V" . We never told war stories to each other but he defended the hell out of me at the VFW when I came home. I sure do miss him...
