This evening, following the Syracuse Gun Shop, the fire mission was launched under heavy OPSEC. After Action Report Follows...
Target - Ed Avila Sr. Mission - To reward target for selfless service, sacrifice and dedication to making ARFCOM, and every one of us, an extension of the Avila Family. Mission commanders raised funds to purchase a custom built M14 Clone from Fulton Armory. Under tight operational deadlines and tempo, sufficient funds were raised to commission premier M1A builder Clint McGee to build an all USGI M14 clone. Using select parts he had been stashing for years to one day build his own rifle, Clint in a matter of days assembled the finest M14 type weapon that any of us had ever seen. A vintage Leatherwood ART IV M14 Sniper Scope was also tracked down and ordered, although it was unavailable at time of mission execution. Target was lured into Tully's restaurant and lulled into a false sense of security. Following dinner ARFCOM forces ambushed Target in parking lot and presented Vietnam vintage tiger stripes, M14 magazines, bayonet and frog, web gear, bipod and other accoutrements. At this point Target began to realize that he wasn't accepting a gift on behalf of Goatboy, but was himself the receipient of the gifts of plenty. Target overwhelmed and speechless. Special thanks to all those who helped make this possible... those who donated, twisted arms, supplied gear, sold items at major discounts, and especially Clint who busted his ever-loving ass to get the rifle done and delivered in time for this weekend. Pictures to follow when Helldog, my partner in crime, adds to this thread. Mods, please tack and allow to remain posted through next weekend so that those who helped make this possible can see what their sacrifice produced, and to serve as a testament that when ARFCOMMERS band together, there is nothing we can not achieve! |

HiramRanger, you did superbly well. Thanks for your efforts.
EdAvilaSr, you are MORE than deserving of that rifle. |
Agreed +1 And we do expect a range report when you get a chance to take that fine rifle out Ed. It is a shooter I hope? |
wish I had read the thread about chipping in on the purchase price. That rifle was awesome.
we were all joking about someone at mcdonalds freaking out and calling the cops meeting everyone did motivate me into finally getting a membership though |
I'm glad that I was there to witness ED in a moment that he was actually SPEECHLESS!
That doesn't happen very often! ED You deserve it! For all of the selfless acts, and dedication to all of us on this board. |

Yup, the penguin is weakening....M-1-A-....calling to him........and he too shall be assimilated Quite a day....enjoy the rifle Ed. I look forward to bumping it |
Nice rifle Ed.... First time I've seen you speechless....
Take good care of her, Clint did an outstanding job on the rifle, work of art... |
My thought too. And I'm ashamed of myself for not getting a membership. That will be resolved immeaditly after this post. Ed was totally speechless as were those suppounding him while as these fine gifts were presented. From the look on Ed's face and the tone when things started he might have thought he was being "roasted", instead it was pure respect. Best damn dinner i ever attended. |
Great rifle for a great man. Enjoy my friend. Its was nice meeting all the "Upstate" crew that I did. The ride back was a breeze 4 hours!!
Very well done, people! Ed Sr is one of the more wise and intelligent posters here, and very much deserving of the custom-built M-14.
Now, pool your deniro and buy me a gun. |
Beautiful rifle! Let me get this straight: You presented the rifle in a McD's Parking lot in NY??
Ya'll have Cast Iron BALLS! Even the Womanz. Congrats, Ed, and thank you to those who donated. The generosity of Arfcommers is unbelievable. |

I have tried to respond a couple of times, but have not been able to transfer my thoughts into words.Somehow, tears come to my eyes and I have to postpone it.I will try one more time, but forgive me if I lack eloquence. My emotions are too strong, but I do not want to postpone this THANK YOU,any longer.
It is difficult for some people to understand how much fraternal love flows from you to me.That would be easily resolved with one comment. These people don't know you! There are so many honors bestowed upon me,and so much love coming from so many of you ,that I am speechless. The whole trip back home was spent listening to how this "operation" took place, and how many unselfish acts took place from many of my friends.............and even people -like Clint McKee- whom I have never had the pleassure of meeting. I do not have words to express my immense gratitude to all of you.So I will just say thank you for the undeserved gifts, and for the friendship and love continuously shown towards my family and me. THANK YOU,AND GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES. "GOD BLESS AMERICA,LAND THAT I LOVE................ |
... I'd have to agree verbatim. Only wish I'd known about this shenanigan beforehand. Would have liked to kick in a few pesos. |
This was without a doubt, our most meaningful of NY/NJ meets.
What else is there to say - Ed, your kind thoughts and deeds shall never go unpunished by us here Enjoy! |
<clip><snip>
I don't think many people around here are going to buy that Ed. One of many words that can describe you is "unselfish". Hope to meet up with you one day out Arizona way. <----(Poet and didn't know it) Who's got the closeups of the rifle, and the "dinner pics" of this Shin-dig? |
Aw shucks, weren't nothing.
Couldn't have happened to a better man. |
Okay then....here I am after the drive home (a breeze @ 4 hours versus the 6 hour "Monsoon Road Rally" of the day before.)
I still need time to assemble all the names of all the very generous contributors who made this happen but I wanted to get the photos up as fast as possible. Also, I-ram-rangers isn't telling wuite the truth: I COULD have uploaded the pictures last night, but Lorie 40 took the pics and her cam uses a different reader cable than mine (mea culpa) ALSO, Dear Hiram, SOME of us have wimmenz in our bed, so even EdSr and associated events must sometimes take a back seat as it were. Anyway, without further ado, the pictures: Here Ed is being presented with a bunch of ratty old deuce gear that he thinks is just some more of the crap I usually dump on him when we cross paths. Here, he is chatting amiably with his fan club, still totally unaware of what lies ahead. Here he gets his first glimpse of the rifle and realizes that Hiram is giving it to HIM. Now it begins to sink in...<evil snicker> I think the Old Goat was actually getting a little misty there.... Edward asks: "Hey Pops, do you have room in the safe? I can store it at MY place..." My personal favorite: To demonstrate his gratitude, EdSr indulges me in a little "More Thrusts Per Squeeze" (Actually, I was pinning on his cartridge belt...thanks a friggin' bunch to the photographer.) Actually, it looks like he kinda enjoyed the experience..... Finally, group shot of those attending.... Thanks for all who came, to Clint for giving us a fantastic rifle at a great price with unbelievable delivery, Lorie40 for working the camera since I was busy running my mouth, and Dear, Sweet HiramRanger for putting it all together...(nude "after hours" pictures emailed seperately Nummy-Nums) More to follow later.... Fuckin A!!!
I think THIS just became the coolest thread ever!!! |
That's cool. Thanks to all who helped to make this all possible :)
Good job all! And congrats Ed. |
I must apologize for NOT being able to contribute to the project. I had earmarked some funds to contribute, but then I had to bug out due to the hurricanes that first hit Florida and then hit my refuge in Alabama, and I was therefore unable to get any access to my accounts for two weeks, and I missed it.
Another time, another worthy fire mission, then. Gee, I've been wanting either a 9mm or .45 complete upper kit for my AR for a while, but I haven't really been able to afford it...hint, hint! CJ |
