I discovered a 16 inch wide hole today so the squatter just moved in without offering to pay rent. I would like to dispose of him immediately but have never killed this type of varmint before. I did watch CaddyShack for tips, but it didn’t help. Could GD provide me effective ways to kill this giant tunnel rat? I am located on rural property with nearest neighbor a quarter mile away and farmland for half mile behind groundhog’s tunnel entrance.

I can confirm, as of last week, that a Chevy Tahoe will kill a groundhog.

They come out to eat in the morning and afternoon. Shoot it with a .22 hollow point

Not sure if this is true, but a guy who gets rid of critters (bats, racoons etc...) said to set out gummy worms. They can't digest them and die. Grab two bags, set them out and report back.

If you can drive up to it
A pipe down the hole connected to the tail pipe of a truck and let it idle for 30 minutes
Plug up the the hole with some foam rubber around the pipe to keep the CO in

Yeah, letting one drive you into an open pit mine works too.

I had a neighbor that would vent a 20lb co2 canister with a hose (sort of like using a fire extinguisher) every time he got a groundhog, and then fill up the hole with a shovel.  I don't recall him ever having one dig its way out.

Havahart trap, some over ripe cantaloupe.

Live trap baited with cantaloupe rinds.  Then .22 from a Ruger Mark 1 in the noggin.  Easy peasy.

I have used these Giant Destroyer for both gophers and ground squirrels.

I get them from Ace Hardware, but these are for sale on Amazon too.

I do not like how short the fuse is that comes with them so I use a longer fuse.

I attempt to put the Destroyer as deep in the hole as I can and still be able to light the fuse.

I have a bucket of sand or dirt ready to cover the hole completely, but not putting out the fuse, so that minimal gases escape.

Hire a sexy young female groundhog to dress all slutty and have her go into the hole under some pretense, like her boyfriend just threw her out of his Camaro right next to the hole and she just needs a place to stay for a few days. Then have her convince the male groundhog that she really likes his anime library and fantasy sword collection and that she also prefers ARs in .300 Blackout. Then have her continue to deepen their relationship over a period of several months until he finally brings her to his mom's place to introduce his new girlfriend, then when they get back to his hole have her reveal that the whole thing has been a grift and she faked all of her hogasms and that she's leaving him for a skunk with a huge smelly dong. Once you see her leave the hole just drop a handful of barbituates and a six-pack of beer. He'll solve the problem himself.

You could put out Haribo Sugar Free gummy worms and it would probably shit itself to death if the Amazon reviews are accurate.

I like all the people who are kill it with a rifle like i got all the day to set up on my patio sniper nest lol.

Had similar problem on a few occasions.

Bait: fucker ate it and puked it up.
Poison smoke stick: Ineffective.
Claw trap: Ineffective.
Cat: Effective when it felt like it.
Waterhose flood: moderately effective-- forced groundhog to come up for air whereupon he was smacked with a toy aircraft carrier. Splash one.

As was mentioned above, the Giant Destroyers work pretty well.
I got one last year when he ran into his hole.
I lit the bomb, threw it in the hole, and shoveled dirt to close up the hole.
Dogs also do a good job of keeping them away.

I've gassed them, trapped them and shot them.

Had one burrow a hole in my range backstop last year. Bold little fucker. A group of foxes came in and did me a solid on that sumbitch before I could get the crosshairs on him, though.

Cabbage and carrots away from the hole. Itll come eat. 22 if your a good shot. 12ga if not

If no shoot buy a trap and relocate. That might be the most illegal thing you can do.

A jar, tight fitting piece of wood over the holes, a pint of ammonia and a pint of bleach. Propane from a burner wand, .22, bigger then .22 if you are pissed at it, traps, JRT. Exhaust pipe and a metal tube.

And so on.

I've been using one to trap raccoons overnight and then dispatch them in the morning (saw another in the chicken coop last night on cameras).

Feels slightly ironic shooting a coon in the head with a 22 trapped in a "have a heart" trap, but the little fuckers gut my chickens wide open so few fucks are given.

When I was a kid we either burned them out or flushed them out with water. Then popped them with a 22 as they came out of the secondary hole.

Honestly, it’s one of the few hunting scenarios a .223 is best suited for over another cartridge.
