How do you tell if something is real or fake, when all the apps etc will be down?
I am aware of acid tests you can do, but doesn’t that mar the value of the coin? That is before we even get into things like white gold, etc.. My current plan is to have enough food and ammo to trade for gold for later… |

I threw it all in the garbage can and just bought index funds. those all will all be worth way more in 100 years. Planning for my kids' future. Index funds, man.

no gold or silver but I do have plenty of lead copper and brass.

Why not be well rounded?
Most SHTF scenarios for your average obese, out of shape, basement dwelling GD'er is a health event, loss of job, or being kicked out by their mother. Plan for that. |

No.
I have gold and silver because I want to have gold and silver. |

Testing gold is easy. One quick test of coins is to weigh them. The Chinese knock offs almost never get the weight right. There are a few scales on Amazon to use to test gold coins.
Another test is the scratch test where you scratch the gold onto a smooth stone, then drop a solution on the scratch and see if it disappears. Just type "gold tester" on Amazon and there are lots of choices. |

Assuming there is no epic economic collapse on the next 100 years the index fund will be worth way more. Gold holds its value, stocks are ownership of companies that make profit and pay out dividends. With that said a little gold is some good insurance I suppose. Also nice to have some wealth outside of the system given the increasingly digital world we live in and how hell bent our gov is set on tracking our every move. |

lol …I blame all those shitty shtf books where the main character just knew “it” was gonna happen and just had bags and bags of silver and gold coins. Then he trades for all goods he needs from starving unprepared peasants and he and his family live like kings …..

No, but I do have single malt scotch and cask-aged rye. It's not for bartering though, just for sipping.

All I have is a piece of hard rock candy. But it’s not for eating. It’s just for looking through.

It's what will pull you out of the dumpster, SHTF won't last forever. It could have some trading power during too. If I were a farmer or rancher with excess food, I would definitely trade for metals. PM's are for people that already have all their bases covered. It's down there with Nods and thermal in my book. It's not for people just breaking in to preparedness . |

Metals are for post SHTF recovery.
Powder wrapped in brass and topped with lead coated copper are the metals for TSHTF |

You guys are crazy! Nobody will ever need nor want a standardized medium of exchange or store of value if FRNs fall out of favor. It'll be barter city and every transaction will be an episode of Let's Make A Deal!

It's about $1K. https://www.boldpreciousmetals.com/product/4397/sigma-metalytics-pmv-original $1K is too much? How much will it cost you when you buy a fake eagle? |

There are enough non-destructive tests that you don't have to use chemical concoctions and acids to test if metals are pure.
The ping test is very hard to fake. If you deal with metals enough you can just trust your ears and how it feels. Otherwise download pingcoin app that doesn't need to be connected to the net. A magnet slide test will weed out most fakes, copper is the only metal that comes close to silver in conductivity. Sigma and xrf scanners will likely get cheaper in the future just like all other technology. |

My gold and silver are hard skills, tools and decades of experience that will make me highly sought after for what I can do and what I can provide.

I have good and silver for lots of reasons. SHTF is the last one.

Quoted: Gold and silver is the last thing I would buy for shtf View Quote This! Gold and Silver are not for SHTF. They are for what comes after. It is to transfer wealth from one monetary system to another. Or for escaping an area with some wealth and starting over. Lots of people fleeing Europe in the 30’s and early 40’s smuggled gold to retain some wealth. I don’t understand why so few understand this concept. |

Tougher to reproduce that wear, tear, and patina. Thieves are more likely to counterfeit new gold coins that retail for $500+. The test kits don't take enough material to notice. Just rub a corner, and leave a scratch on the stone to test. |

It's not food, clothing, shelter, transportation or communication, or tools to keep things working.
A crate of .22LR or a full tool box is more valuable. |
