I agree, I thought my colleagues and I were the only ones that thought these exams were a hoax. I don't remember much from my exams, I took half of them just for the fun of it, having passed my CCDA first I didn't figure MCSE would be difficult, it wasn't, all one needs to do is study the exam for the exam, forget about real world anything. The last one I passed was Exchange 5.5, hell I studied for two weeks and didn't finish reading the exam prep books and passed it, the guy at Sylvan asked me if I wanted to teach Exchange in their facility. My advice is that if you want to learn something useful, look at Cisco's certifications, even those can be boringly academic, asking questions like "what are the reasons we use the OSI 7 layer model", totally irrelevent in the real world.
