I have to move to Columbia for a couple months, or possibly even up to a year. I've done the regular google checks, but I always like to ask on here; what should I know in advanced? Any locals that love it or hate it? Any "must see or do" things? I know I'm good to bring even my NFA stuff, but any weird laws I should know?

Prepare to live in the hottest place on Earth.
I have very little functional knowledge of Columbia except it is very hot compared to the rest of the state. |

Avoid five points unless you wanna get drunk with college kids and/or robbed

I know of a tire place there that thinks a torque wrench goes in only one direction.

Well, those of us who live in my part of the state we have a saying. The worst part of the drive to Columbia is...you end up in Columbia.

Pops Pizza is just about the best pizza you'll ever get. That says a lot since I'm an NY'er.
Lots of Revolutionary War history (Francis Marion, Cornwallis HQ) Flying Saucer beer bar is pretty nice. College football is Huge. Great state fair. I could go on. Charleston is a couple hours away and worth it to drive there any chance you get. |

That's a bad law, not a weird law. I mean more like how some cities limit things that the state's don't, so it doesn't show up under state laws. Or, i can't remember where, but one town had a no turn on red law that was for the whole town and not just posted signs. View Quote |

Did Drill Sergeant school at Ft Jackson one summer. Hot as fuck every. Single. Day. Oh and fire ants everywhere. More sand than dirt. I hated every second of it.

There seems to be a prerequisite that you have to meet me and D16 at some point. We are the local welcoming committee.
p.s. not specifically for butt-stuff, but who knows where the night might take us. It is Columbia, after all. |

I lived in Bahrain and just got home from Egypt. I'm not too worried about the heat. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

The palmetto bugs are easy to domesticate if you stroke their mane while you feed them sugar cubes.

Not a bad area. A little farther from the coast than I like, but I would be just fine temporarily living there.

State preemption for firearm laws, localities can not pass anything more restrictive than state laws.
Traffic camera tickets are not legal for disobeying traffic control devices, officers must witness and deliver citation in person. Texting and driving is illegal, talking on the phone while driving, I believe, is still legal. Traffic is terrible and everyone is on their phone, watch out. You can not bring your concealed carry on the statehouse grounds, including the sidewalk. |

Hey saturn, are you still doing that no carb BS? Because we need to all get together and drink some bourbon.

Watch Live PD it is a TV show with lots of footage from Columbia

If you want a nice little town to visit while you're living in Colombia, check out Aiken South Carolina. It's Polo Fields and horse racing training Stables. It's just west a little ways on the interstate.

Those heathens add sugar to their collard greens.
If you make it to the NCO club on Fort Jackson, please admire my work. Enjoy the scenery this fall when class is back in session. You HAVE to get gas at the Obama station. And take a selfie. I lost mine when my old phone died. |
