About 6 inches above my ankle there's a slightly swollen spot that's been sore for over a week. There's mild swelling and slight discoloration down to my ankle. It hurts more when I'm sitting down or standing in one spot for a while. Elevating my leg helps relieve the pain.
No injury, running or anything. The ankle is pain free, but the spot above it is sore. I'd see a doc, but my insurance is ridiculous. ? |

No bug bites. The main swollen spot is about 4" long by 2" wide. No sign of punctures

Deep vein thrombosis is what I had that caused that. My right leg below the knee felt very heavy, it'd swell up and be very tender and sore to the touch. Elevation and a compression stocking helped, but ultimately I had the veins in question sealed/repaired. Been fine ever since.
Losing some weight and drinking more water has helped quite a bit too. ETA - FWIW, I went to the doctor like two days after my leg started hurting and I had no improvement. So that's probably what you should do too. |

Go to the Dr.
I'm not a Physician, but |

Any plane trips or extended car rides prior to a week ago? Ever had this issue before? History of blood clots or pulmonary embolism?
Medical history and medications? Is the area warm to the touch and is it getting worse? Lots of questions that need answering, none that can be accurately done here. Sounds like either cellulitis or a DVT, either way it will require a trip to the doctor. |

In my professional medical opinion. Go see a Doctor for a medical opinion.

I drive 2 hours every day and mostly sit at work. No history of clots or anything related. Heart disease runs on fathers side.

OP - Medial opinions are best had through a visit with your doctor.

Stop sticking foreign objects in your anus.

DVT
Superficial thrombophlebitis Cellulitis Varicose vein? DVT could lead to Pulmonary Embolism which can be fatal. You need to get it looked at, and may need an ultrasound as well. Cost or not it is important. Call your Dr tomorrow and tell them you are worried that you might have a blood clot in your leg and see if they can get you in right away. You could also go to an urgent care and get examined, they could check a ddimer, but if they are worried about a DVT they may send you for an ultrasound anyways. |
|
DVT is not to be ignored.
My did had thrombophlebitis. I've seen what you're describing OP, many times before my Dad would start another extended hospital stay, complete with heparin and Coumadin treatment. The lung cancer that killed him formed in the scar tissue of the pulmonary embolism he eventually had. Go see the doctor OP. |

48 yrs old. I work out 6 days a week. Not over weight. I'm very health conscious. This is ridiculous.

a 4x2 inch swollen area for no apparent reason would have sent me to a doc as soon as I saw it
|
|
OP - I had a friend, "had" being the key word.
Un-diagnosed DVT that resulted in a pulmonary embolism one day. He was feeling a bit tired one afternoon - went to take a little nap on the couch before picking up his young son from some event, and never woke up. A.W.D. |

DVT or Infection. Both very serious. I'm not kidding at all.
People associate dvt with age or weight, but there are hereditary factors. Plenty of younger, in shape people die of blood clots. It might just be your thing. |

Could just be weak vein valves venous reflux I think he called it? I had mine fixed last year with RFA (radio frequency ablation. )
|
|
My similar symptoms led to a pulmonary embolism, which almost killed me.
See your doc as soon as possible. Rather be told it's nothing to worry about than the alternative. |
|
Friend of mine had similar symptoms. Ended up being a blood clot that almost killed him. Get checked out.

I took a 9-1-1 call from a guy with a sore and discolored foot for over a week.
Was that you? |

What fish medication is the equivalent to Alteplase? Just got to the pet store
Any coag problems in the past? Any meds? Did I miss that one? DVTs in healthy youngish men is pretty uncommon. Not impossible though. Being active helps too. |

Pics with an object for scale? (like a ruler, quarter, 223 cartridge....)
ETA: those NP/PA in a box places like Little Clinic, Minute Clinic usually have a flat fee of about $60, but cannot do shit for more serious stuff. (Read your part about crappy insurance after the first reply) |
|
Go to the ER...dvt is a clot that starts in the legs....if it embolizes and lodges in the lungs it will likely be fatal.
Not kidding. Keep us posted. |

I would get into a doctor ASAP. That happened to me a few years ago. It ended up being a deep vein thrombosis (blood clot in major vein behind knee). Mine was travel induced- had been seated in a car for 5 hours. I run marathons, lift and am in good shape. Doc said it happens to even healthy people.
I was on warfarin for 6 months. Pretty scary shit. Don't mess around with it. Get it checked. ETA - I made my post without reading any of the others first. Not surprised that many others concluded the same. That should speak volumes OP. Go to a doctor immediately. If that clot breaks loose you could die or if you survive, could end up with brain damage or other serious health issues. |
