Between ages 12-17 I really wanted a Mini-14 and PC-9

in 2014 at 29yrs old I finally bought both. Within two years I sold the PC-9 due to its terrible trigger pull and the fact that spare parts are now non-existent

the Mini I'm honestly pretty happy with. I knew going into it what it could do and what it couldn't.

Every time I shoot the Mini it takes me back to being a 14yr old kid who really wanted one. Even though the first time I actually got to shoot a Mini I was about 27

Back in the early 80's I wanted a stainless Mini-14 sooooo bad for popping coyotes.

Ended up with an H&R .22 hornet single shot with a pitted barrel.

FN PS90.  Pretty neat gun, but also a niche product that I sorta wish I had spent the money on a AR instead. It's too expensive for what it is IMO.

Now, if I could convince myself to get a couple tax stamps for it it might be a different story

Tec-9. It's big, it's dumb, it's shitty.

Still want it.

Only gun I can ever remember really wanting as a teen(other than a nice shotgun) was an AR15, but I don't consider those impractical or dumb. I've bought plenty of dumb guns over the years but most(more likely all) were impulse buys.

Let me pull out my handy dandy wish list of guns.

Desert eagle
37 mm
gyrojet
S&W 500 magnum with a long barrel

All of the other ones aren't dumb or impractical (some are slightly practical, some are slightly not dumb)

I still want them all

I really wanted an Uzi for the longest time. A few times I almost bought a semi auto one. They are cool but it doesn't get much more impractical than a massive, heavy, awkward, $800 semi auto 9mm. If it's full auto that's another story but those are out of my price range.

And a desert eagle. If they were a little more reliable I would own one.

It was after I was a teenager, but for a while I really wanted one of those gigantic, stupid and expensive H&K Mark 23s

The only dumb gun I ever wanted was a Desert Eagle, I don't want one anymore.

My favorite gun as a kid was the retro AR15/M16 and the like. I grew up watching movies like Platoon and Hamburger Hill, honestly that probably explains a lot.

Arisaka.  They were $25 in the shotgun news.
Later, HK 91 and Fal.
What were my primary guns at that time, 10/22, mossy 500 and any deer rifle I could borrow.

Ruger 77 458 Winchester.  I've wanted one ever since I first laid eyes on one in a small gun shop in Springerville Arizona back around 1990.  I finally bought/traded for one a couple weeks ago.  Not too practical, (unless they delist Grizzly bears and open season on them) but it's just sexy.

I wanted to machine a 1911 in .32 ACP in shop class just because it would have been a silly thing to make for a two semester project.
However, I did get an A for my manual blueprints which I made using my dad's 1911 as a reference to re-scale everything.
