NORTH Korea has pledged to launch a nuclear strike on the US if a “single bullet is fired” as US forces flood the Korean Peninsula.

In a statement, North Korea’s Foreign Ministry said: "The Korean People’s Army will reduce the bases of aggression and provocation to ashes with its invincible Hwasong rockets tipped with nuclear warheads and reliably defend the security of the country and its people’s happiness in case the US and the South Korean puppet forces fire even a single bullet at the territory of the DPRK."

The political/military leaders in the South once talked of unification....now it is just plain talk that they have no intention of letting happen. They saw what the unification of Germany took monitarily and they know that the North would take decades and untold billions possibly close to a trillion to rebuild. They also know most in the North are unfit to join South Korean society/economy and the thought of the NORKs getting a vote in the elections of South Korea scares the crap out of many.

That voting point is well taken. I think the only way you could reunify would be for NK to still have its own local government that SK controls, and NK citizens could only vote in NK elections.

Basically it would be a colony. They'd have to keep it that way probably for 50 to 100 years.

I've been told the artillery is in fortified positions such that we probably couldn't get it all in one strike before Seoul gets hammered. Maybe you could do that if we went nuclear out of the gate, but then Seoul likely catches fallout.

Yep, and thats not even the big one, ie Hosni Mubarak. The way we pulked the rug out from under him after years of doing our bidding was a huge message to the powers that be in the ME.
