What a beautiful 1911. Any of you guys actually lay down the coin for one of these beauties?
Besides the $4k price tag is there any good reason not to own one? http://shopwilsoncombat.com/Bill-Wilson-Carry-II-Compact-45-ACP-Black/productinfo/HANDGUN2710/ |

No way. If I spent that much coin I'd be afraid to take it out of the safe.
|
|
I'm not down with aluminum frame 1911s.
Buy a Guncrafter No Name CCO instead. Do it. |

Call around to Wilson dealers. You'll find one in stock well under MSRP.
I have 3 wilsons and they are all superb shooters. The pricing certainly reflects the law of diminishing returns, but to me the value is there. |

I have a full size build by Bill Wilson before Wilson Combat made their own frames and stuff. Its one of my most prized possessions

|
Meh, I don't like scalloped slides and not a fan of the rail either.
|
|
|
|
If you shit-canned the rail, those X-Tac serrations and the X-Tac roll mark you'd have a nice looking shooter.
What the hell is a grop safety (fifth bullet point)? My OCD doesn't let me buy $4K pistols from people that don't spell check their ad copy... Kidding...I'd love to have a Wilson, but I'd seriously need to be able to see, feel or shoot the $2,200 difference between that pistol and a VBOB. |
|
The pistol would be far better without that X Tac billboard on the slide, but seeing as its from Wilson, if you're willing to wait I'm positive they'll put one together for you without it.

If they ditched the "TACTICAL CARRY" marking, I could see myself buying one of these. http://shopwilsoncombat.com/images/Handgun2098_R.jpg View Quote It's a tool. |

have shot an x-tac and its a damn fine gun. the front strap treatment is a little funky and i don't think it's as comfortable as good checkering, but it's not a deal breaker

It's $4000. For four grand, I don't want a billboard. I know what model it is; I don't give a shit if anyone else does. View Quote Remember that these are ready-made guns for people who can't wait 4-5 months for a custom build. |

So don't buy one or worry about it. View Quote Just politely pointing out that no one spends $4k on a carry piece out of need, but of want. Same as a Rolex, or any other high end mechanical object, really. In before someone posts their beat to shit on the outside daily carry Wilson next to their beat to shit daily wear Submariner to try to prove me wrong. ETA: "Obsolete" does not necessarily mean that it won't do the job, just that there are "better" alternatives. Just as a Camry does the job of "daily runabout" better than a Ferrari F355 does not mean that I would kick the F355 out of bed (so long as the scheduled maintenance has been done) |

I see your point so fair enough. I often do a self litmus test with my higher end guns; if I'm too afraid of dropping it, then I shouldn't be owning it let alone carrying it. View Quote If I drop a gun, its not really the marks on it that I would be worried about, it would be dropping it and having it land in such a way that it fucks up the pistol mechanically. |

I agree with the others about the tacky looking lettering & scalloping. I'm sure it's a well made gun though.
I recently went with the Ed Brown Kobra Carry LW. All it has on the slide is the words "Ed Brown". I'm ok with that simplicity. |
