Another Indianapolis based company is moving to Mexico but they didn't get offered a deal.
They probably don't have $6 billion in federal contracts either. |

I can see why someone would say it seems like crony capitalism, maybe it is to a degree. I suspect at least part of the "deal" is the fact that Trump plans to lower the corporate tax rates to 15% and reduce regulations to make the country more business friendly, which will benefit all businesses. I haven't seen many particulars of the deal itself but it's my understanding part of it is state level tax abatements.
That being said....I find the timing of this "OP ed" suspicious given the fact it'd been rumored she is/was under consideration for a cabinet position. |
|
I thought that was how it was supposed to work? A business wants to go to greener pastures, so you have to gvie them a reason to stay. Pretty much every type of relationship is give and take.

I don't know the details on the carrier deal.
I'm pissed at our former governor Perry. Motherfucker's campaign to bring California business here worked. Now we are swimming in Cali scum. |

Were there tax breaks given to any business by the state of Alaska during her tenure? View Quote Quite the opposite. Oil companies used to be taxed according to the volume of their production. Palin changed it so they were taxed on their profits. When oil went to $144/bbl in 2008, it led to AK having a massive windfall it would have missed out on under the old tax scheme. She disbursed the resulting revenues in the form of a special one time $2500 dividend for every resident of the state. She was wildly popular before John McCain picked her for VP. |

My guess is that she was informed she's not getting that position.

You might want to actually read her OP ED and not someone else interpretation. Just Sayin. Read that too. When government steps in arbitrarily with individual subsidies, favoring one business over others, it sets inconsistent, unfair, illogical precedent. Meanwhile, the invisible hand that best orchestrates a free people’s free enterprise system gets amputated. Then, special interests creep in and manipulate markets. Republicans oppose this, remember? Instead, we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is one big fail. and Gotta’ have faith the Trump team knows all this. And I’ll be the first to acknowledge concerns over a deal cut by leveraging taxpayer interests to make a manufacturer stay put are unfounded – once terms are made public. |

She's right, using the current tax code, more government picking winners and losers.
Businesses don't pay taxes. Customers pay taxes in the form of higher prices. Depending on how you look at it, tariffs for companies moving jobs overseas, is still crony capitalism, atleast to a true liberaltarian, I mean, libertarian. However, true libertarian beliefs in this form is just globalism. Tough call in this scenario. |

The liberals on MSNBC, CNN, et al are using the same argument: "Trump interfered with the free market system..."

The current system is not free market - due to the significant amount of regulations businesses have to deal with in the US. Relaxing those regulations or providing incentives is no different that the inverse (read: current state).

Who cares, really?
This is normal business. Plenty of developers in local and national markets get tax deals to develop in crap areas. The tax code encourages behavior. |
|
If you leave the state do they still pay you?
Sounds like this could be some kind of "crony residential" situation. |
|
She is correct.
Having to give tax breaks to get a company to stay is BS. Offering tax breaks to bring companies is also BS. Picking winners and losers is not Gov't job, giving a leg up is not Gov't job. |
