If you have to talk to a salesman to get a price, you're being defrauded.

Every. Time.

Stopped watching at 7 minutes. That's about the time I would've gotten up and walked out.

Over $600 a month for a Civic? A fucking Civic? Is that guy on crack!?!?!

The past two times I've bought a car I've walked into the dealership with the price of the vehicle I'm willing to pay. The first time was my 2013 F-150 and I got it for the price I said. The second time was my wife's '16 Ford Escape and we got it for $3k less than I said I was willing to pay. Both times it worked out in my favor.

I was a slimy car salesman for about six months (I wasn't a good liar) in 1979 and was forced to watch Zig Zigler video's daily for a month during training.

If you don't walk into a dealership already knowing what the vehicle should cost and also know what interest rates you qualify for...... your an idiot.

couple phone calls and a half hour on the internet and you almost don't need a salesmen.

I reveled with glee at our last purchase when the finance guy tried to slide in one of their "preferred" banks for half a percentage point higher than I got with my bank.... the sandwich maker filet him like a northern pacific cod. Ended up getting another 300 bones off the car from the dealership manager for our trouble.

talk fast, talk numbers works on 95% of buyers
the key to selling to the majority
is to never shut up and never ask for the sale just pressure them until they give in

worked with a guy like him
annoying as shit guy never dialed it down not even on a Sunday sitting in a bar
he was turned up 24/7 365 and made good money doing it
known him for 10+ years
other than his wife's name and that I think he hunts
couldn't tell you a thing about the man, he was that on his game all the time

ETA: walk into the dealership knowing your numbers and sticking to them, you should know what the vehicle should sell for, what your trade in is, and what your interest should be within .25%
when I buy a vehicle the sales guys are there to bs with while the paperwork gets done up
we haggle for a couple minutes and if they cant meet my numbers I walk out, no big deal

I spent three months researching my F-150 and by the time I was ready to buy I had a folder of information that I walked into the dealer with. I opened the folder and pulled out a printout of the exact truck they had on their lot with a price of $39k on it and placed it on a salesman's desk and said, "Do you want to sell a truck today? Because if so, this is what I want, this is what I'm paying for it. If not, have a good day."

Guy looked at me and said, 'No problem, let me get the keys so you can test drive it.' and I said, "Don't bother. Just get me the paperwork." and he was surprised I didn't want to drive it. I had driven the exact truck but in a different color three months prior and knew what I was getting.

I did considerably less research on the Escape but did basically the same thing.

Want 18 for that hoopty? Sell it somewhere else. Finance that new car elsewhere as well. Work on the out the door price of that new shitbox and the out the door price only. I don't care what the mudguards cost or the true coat, dealer prep, admin fees. What is the final cost, out the door? Go ask your manager and hit me with a good figure or I'll keep shopping.

I'm responsible for a pretty large chunk of spending on our I/T budget.  I learned quickly that when someone starts pulling that kind of crap I gently remind them THAT I'M THE CUSTOMER.  If they don't get the hint I tell them to hit the bricks.  That mind set has spilled over into my personal life as I'm trying to buy a car right now and am running into a legion of assholes who somehow think I'm working for them.  Wrong.  The world doesn't work that way any more.

Just treating people like people and working on the buyers behalf is all it takes.

OP never make your "trade in" part of the equation. When there's a trade they will bamboozle you with bull excreatment. My best deal either house or car,
leave emotion out of the deal. Be willing to walk away when the deals not going your way. I admit my first car and home emotion played a part in the decision.
Once you learn no home or car is unique, you are in control. In a way it's rewarding not to bite, and simply walk if the deal isn't working.

Dealerships and sales drones are awful.

The last time I bought a car (last year) I went and test drove what I wanted to try.  After I made my decision, I emailed three local dealerships with the specs, colors, model.  Got responses from all three, negotiated to a price with the best two.  Settled on a price by email before I every gave them my phone number.

After we had agreed on a price and they had taken a deposit, they tried to charge another $350 for the splash guards mentioned and wheel locks.  "Nope, that isn't what we agreed on.  Take them off, leave them on, or find me a car that doesn't have them, or I will walk away."  They conceded.  Manufacturer was running a 0.9% financing offer at the time ($200 over the life of the loan for the half I financed).  I showed up at the dealership to pick it up and sign the papers, and they had two sets of paperwork pre-printed...one at 2.9% the other at 0.9%, thinking I wouldn't notice.

I had a guy while trying to sell me an extended warranty...  Pull out an old ECU out of a car and slapped it on his desk and said "you know what this is?  It's an ECU, this could easily cost you $1,500 if it broke out if warranty".

I looked at my wife then looked at the guy like he lost his fucking mind. Still bought the car.

Bleh.  I would not have sat through that.

Secured financing for the last new car I bought through our credit union.  Salesman was no pressure and actually very nice.  Had to talk to a guy like this to sign all the paperwork.  He tried to push their financing on me more than once so I informed him that we had used their financing on our last car and promptly refinanced at a much better rate through our credit union.

We also chose not to trade in the car we were replacing.  Sold it for cash.

I like to get everyone emotionally involved in a sale and then at the last minute call bullshit and walk away leaving the salesman and sales manager dumbfounded.  Then I write a letter saying how shitty my experience was.  I pretty much get what I want after that.

Sorry, it's just the game.  I was a salesman for 7 years.

No they aren't. My family is still in the business and I would be too if I remotely enjoyed it. My Uncle runs multiple dealerships in Western VA.

My brother would sit there and go along with that shit and let the guy think he hooked a sucker and at the very end pull the rug out from under the salesman and make the sales man think he made a mistake while my brother pretends he doesn't understand what happened. I've seen him do shit like that.  Once seen him get a real estate agent to have an open house only to only to get a buyer to sign his purchase agreement. I asked how he did that. He said he put a clause in the agent's contract if he got a buyer it voided a contract.

One of my friends can sell like that, he is truly a master at it. It is a lot harder to be successful selling cars than most people think, especially now with all the info online and everyone thinking they are experts at negotiating. Many of the other guys at his dealership squeak by on 2 or 3 sales per month, he usually closes at least 2-3 per day and people come back to him for their next car, that is when you know you're doing it right.

If I could make a living buying cars for people who hate dealing with guys like that...dream job. I LOVE those guys. I LOVE the game. If you do your research and know your numbers...and don't mind playing the game, there is zero reason to not get the deal you want.
