What is your heritage?

Though a born and bred American, I am of Swiss and Swedish genes. I am more proud of the Swiss side.

Story: I had the opportunity to work on a Swiss dairy farm for some time -one night, I asked my boss to give me a notepad. He said sure and then opened a drawer -it was full of 30 round magazines. I asked him what those were for. He smiled, and then took me upstairs to the attic. He had both his and his father's issued SIG rifles -Sig 550s.

Gotta love the Irish.

Also, while going on a run in Switzerland amidst the farms, I heard full auto fire down the country road.  I asked my boss about it, and he said, "yah, it is just the neighbor.  He likes to play with his Swiss army guns at the rifle range."  They also had a handgun only range just outside of town.

Mainly Scottish on one side, Sicilian on the other; so basically temperamental European hill folk on both sides.

My maternal grandmother is from France and lived through WWII in Verdun.  She was born in 1933 and has some really sad memories of things.  My mom was also born in France but they came to the US shortly after her birth. Not sure about my fathers side.

Mostly German, with lots of "other" thrown in along the way.

Dad's side were poor farmers, who came over as indentured servents in 1738.  Worked off their debt in Pennsylvania, then moved to North Carolina.  Bounced around from area to area after that until we ended up in Texas in the late 1800s.

Mom's side were also poor farmers from Germany, who came over to Texas after the first World War.

Dad went to Vietnam and fell in love with SE Asia.

After a couple more floats he guarded embassies in Singapore and Jakarta.  Mom happened to be wandering by with friends on college break from Kuala Lumpur.  Dad made it happen, brought home a bride and here I am.

While my Mom's side is ethnic Chinese, having family in a predominantly Muslim country always makes background checks fun.

Dad's side is primarily Germans who wound up in Illinois sometime in the early to mid 1800's, with a small group moving to MI around the beginning of the 20th Century.
Mom's side is all Irish who emigrated to Newfoundland a long time ago, with Mom coming to the U.S. in 1968 when my folks married.

Dutch, genetically speaking of the Viking variety with some Ashkenazi mixed in.

My paternal grandfather was a second generation Dutch American whose parents spoke little English and befriended my maternal grandfather in the Netherlands while working as a translator during WWII.

My maternal grandmother was the youngest of eight children and only two of them survived the war, when the war ended they tried to get to the states before my mother was born but only made it to Canada, then settled in the US. My parents grew up in the same church.

"Scotch/Irish" in a nutshell.

Some of my folks associated with Clan MacLeod. One of the neatest tidbits is that one of my relatives was Donald Mor McCrimmon who some say developed the "Pibroch"  form for the bagpipe.

My paternal grandfather came here from Germany as a child in the early 1900s, and later married another German.

My moms side is more of a mutt, and uncertain. She thinks they're Scottish, Irish, and a tiny bit American Indian.

I usually just say that my dads side is from Germany, and my moms side is from Southern Illinois.

Like most in the Appalachias I am Scotch, Irish, German. How far back to those is an unknown for most but a long ways. But with family names like Hogan, McClure, and Honaker there isn't much mystery. The Scotland link was actually traced back to being there mid 1700's, the rest are just family names and old stories.

This. Without the whole Spanish Army part. I've met relatives who were Cuban Army. Angola sounded unpleasant.

Meh... I still rooted for the SADF when they killed commies in Angola.

I have a couple of uncles that want money allof a sudden. They were in Angola. South Africans kicked their ass.
