Fort Hood Texas and Gallant Crew 78.
It rained nearly every day. It rained so much the base newspaper had a cartoon of two soldiers throwing mud at each other "Bang! Bang! I Got You" read the caption. Reservists and National Guardsmen came to Fort Hood to play soldier and stuff. I got to drive around an Evaluator for the exercise. I recall seeing a C-130 flying around with its ramp lowered. I never saw it drop anything or see paratrooper jump out of it either. I drove around a couple of Fort Hood DZ's often enough though. I even drove through the Impact Area a time or two, too. Fort Hood has cliffs! Some where in the Impact Are there are some cliffs! There was a small herd of goats living in the cliffs! I took some pictures of the goats. I wish I still had the pictures: I lost them when I lost a bag going over to Italy and Vicenza. Those goats were some sight...

I was living on campus at Northern Michigan University near the beautiful shores of Lake Superior.
We got the blizzard and the cold. In February the temperature was -34° and that new thing called wind chill factor was -54° while I was doing preflight on a Cessna 152. It was my first cross country flight & the cabin got up to 32°. We had so much snow piled up, it still hadn't all melted by the end of May. Last day of classes was sunny & 45° and girls were sun bathing. |

Ah, yes. Grad school Texas A&M. White sun dresses and sudden rain showers. Girls wore dresses to class. Girls were wearing pants that were either high waisted and tight or hip hugging tight. Girls were thinner back then. None of that 80s pleated baggy pants and massive shoulder pads.
Hard to believe that nearly 40 years have passed. I'm old. |

OP told me there were roller skates in the title. I understand roller skates are on the feet. It still took me 2 minutes to find out the roller skates were blue.
