Manufacturers are making clothes bigger. Bought two Carhartt medium tshirts last week, huuuge. Bought a pair of 34x30 5.11 pants yesterday, all my others are 34's. These new pants seem like they're 36's.

I'm looking for the really, really relaxed fit jeans.

Carhart is way oversized. I wear a large in most brands and a medium in just a few. But I can swim around in a Medium Carhart. Way too big.

I'm not sure why they are so miss sized.

Vanity sizes are creeping into men's clothing.  Get out a tape measure, and see if the pants are, in fact, 34 inches.

It's a toss up. Some of my older Carhartt shirts (all medium) are a little smaller. Some are huge. Same goes for their pants too.

I live in a farming community and I have to buy one size smaller when I buy Carhartt stuff, they are big!

Every brand uses different tolerances. As a summer job, i worked for Harley Davidson as a quality inspector. Most of the clothes came from overseas so i remember a lot of variance in the sizing. Some measurements allowed for 3/4 of an inch.

At the store i can try on several different pants of the same brand but fit too loose or too tight. I dont think i gained weight within the 10 minutes.

Eta clothes could be getting bigger b/c we are getting taller too.

I'm 5'7", 137lbs and the slimmest slimfit is like wearing a damn parachute. I look like a freaking clown in anything but custom fit stuff.

Carhartt jeans on the other hand seem to run very tight. Lost 20 pounds this year bringing me from a 33" waist to a 32". I bought 34x32 to carry my 1911 in. The Carhartt brand jeans I still have seem to be just as tight.

What was a large at one time is now a medium.
This helps the fat boys think they have lost weight.

Vanity sizing. It improves sales and retains customers by making them feel better about their weight/size. It worked for women's clothes, and a few years ago some brands started in on men's clothes.

Because "medium" means different things to different manufacturers. They are trying limit their SKUs by clumping sizes together.
