That place is interesting for about 3 mins.

But if you go down the road a ways there is Bedrock AZ ,theme park.

It looks just like bedrock from the flintstones

I walked the rim trail a few years ago.  If I recall it is about 6 miles long.

Incredible how much damage you can do with something small if you get it moving fast enough.

I remember seeing a video of them blasting a .177 bb fast enough to detonate a cinder block

Yep, to think an ~ 150 ft diameter rock made that crater....

It wasn't a rock, it was a chunk of iron.

Nickel-iron.  Like a big chunk of stainless steel.

I was JUST there last week. Flagstaff is awesome btw. Fratelli's Pizza is out of this world... oh, and the Grand Canyon isn't all that bad either.

That area has something for everyone. Big, well preserved crater for your science fans. Decent Elk, pronghorn and coyote hunting for others.

Between those things, I've spent a very large amount of time there.

if you visit that place, take some binoculars. there is a little shack with a life size astronaut cut out , in the center of the crater.

What's in the middle?

I believe it was the first discovery of a meteor in the world.

Astronauts trained on the bottom in the 1960's.

In the museum, an employee was telling kids that if they could pick up the 1.5ft meteorite on display they can take it home.

Kids tried, the employee informed them that it weighs as much as a Volkswagen Beetle.

That thing is more dense than the spectators at Democratic Conventions.

I am not sure how that is possible since the earth is only about 6,000 years old
Link Posted: 5/1/2016 1:06:15 AM EDT

So how do we know it was only 150 feet?

The world is already in chaos.  Hitting the White House might actually improve things.

I came to recommend Fratelli's. Lowell Observatory is also interesting. They have a big chunk of that meteorite IIRC.

It's about 3/4 mile in diameter and 600 feet deep.
It has to be seen to be truly appreciated.

Been there.  It's a helluva hole in the ground.  Ruined its development potential for centuries.   Mebbe we can fill it in with fresh water, stock it with trout and make it a fishing resort.

was it an airburster? or did it hit the ground?
