Don't bother. Incredibly heavy pig that's difficult to work on or modify.

In the right trim, they were awesome. A real bitch to work on, from what I understand though.

Mullets were well before this car. You must be a youngin if you think that. lol I had one back in the day and it was bad ass.

Twin turbo AWD V6 making 320 HP in the early 90s. Should be way more iconic than it is.

True that, last generation of the Supra merits a "before its time" thread, too. But the AWD of the VR4 seems to be something very special, looking back at it, here in 2015. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Supra>3000GT But the AWD of the VR4 seems to be something very special, looking back at it, here in 2015. It had all wheel steering too. They were cool cars, my mom drove a Stealth R/T TT and a VR4 after that(both manuals for mom). They only stopped making/bringing them here due to the OBDII stuff. Pig heavy or not it produced an incredible amount of torque at a very low rpm. |

I had a high school teacher (young guy too) who bought a green vr4 new, with cash he claimed.
We all wondered how a teacher afforded such a car back then...maybe he was a saver, or his wife was well to do...or maybe he did well in investments. We all envied him for sure. |

While in high school, I did some landscaping work for a doctor from my church and his son in the '90s. He had one, a 1993, and after lunch one day of talking cars he tossed me the keys and said "have fun, have her back by 6". I do know two things about them. A: I would love to have one. B: They leave the line like a bat out of hell if you dump the clutch.

I think the Galant VR4 was more so ahead of its time than the 3000GT VR4.

|
My friend has a 1999 vr4 that he's been throwing money at forever. Cool car but heavy and expensive to modify. The transmission and awd transfer case break a lot.

Had a chance to drive one in the rain. So stabile it was'nt fun

I always thought those were really badass looking, especially from the back angle.
Low and wide, gave it the look of a car more expensive and sporty than it really was. There's an even more rare hardtop convertible variant too, if I remember right. The hardtop convertible was way before its time. |

Try working in an auto parts store, and listening to people complain about their Mitsubishis. It's enough to turn you away from them forever. They're about as bad as people who buy the older BMWs, thinking it'll make them "cool". All they do is make them "poor". Wait until they have to buy a battery for them!
|
|
A technological tour de force. Neat for their time. I hated working on them.
You could get that fucker in a Spyder variant as well, with a power retractable hard top. |
|
When I was young and dumb we had one on I25 from Ft Collins to the Wyoming border at around 140mph. It was a quick trip. I won't admit to what else we did with it
|
|
I remember driving one in '92
anyway, it was impressively fast to a 13 year old kid driving it but fell on it's face after second gear see also: dodge stealth |

Thinking maybe I'd hit a diamond in the rough, find one someone was disinterested with, in bad shape needing lots of work I could buy for a song. I still think they're neat cars. |

My 62yr old mom drives a 98 3000gt as her "fun". Non vr4 but still a sharp car.

The rear spoiler would pop up automatically at a certain speed. We had a couple of them running around here, one hardtop and one Spyder. 3KGT VR4 owners are strange people. There's no real in-between - either their cars are complete and total wrecks, barely running, or they dump tons of money and effort into them and they're perfect. The Spyder always scared me, because of the hardtop. I was told it takes a special laptop PC with some cables and software to reset or diagnose the top in the event of a failure, and at the time I was told this, there were like four people in the southeastern US that had working equipment for the top. |

NSX>Supra>RX7>3000GT. The 3000GT is heavy but was great as a gran turismo car. Mods make them decent in the power range but they're rarely in the same hp ranges as modified Supras. And don't get me started on FD RX7 reliability. |

As was stated before, it was a pig, poor handling, shitty to work on(comparable to the 89-94 300ZX's, same V6 TT config in a tight engine bay).
