I actually love the show other than gold rush I watch moutain men and hockey. That's about it. It's the only show on TV you'll find with heavy equipment involved. It's about the only reason I watch it

It's about the only reason I watch it I'll give you the recap bs. However you'd be hard pressed to find a show that you don't deal with something along those lines. Compared to shows like Jersey Shore and that American horror bs I'll take gold rush ever day of the week. |

The only money the Hoffmans are making is from the show View Quote Yea, no, not so much. Most people seem to forget that Toad and his boys have pulled out quite a bit of gold. Had toad stayed in the Yukon instead of heading south he would have kicked everyone asses that season. Season 2: Porcupine Creek (Hurt et al.): 80.4 oz (2,280 g) $125,000 Big Nugget Mine (Schnabel et al.): 34 oz (960 g) $55,000 Quartz Creek (Hoffman et al.): 93.5 oz (2,650 g) $150,000 Season 3: The Hoffman crew mined 803oz. of gold earning them over $1.28 million Parker and Dakota Fred mined 191oz. and 163oz, respectively, worth over a quarter million dollars each. This in comparison to the first season where nobody earned more than 50oz. of gold. |

What I don't understand is the need to add sound effects that sound like electric over hydraulic to excavators and wheel loaders. As well as the sounds of dieseling like it's getting worked to death. Maybe it's for the uninformed or people who have never operated equipment. I still watch it though. |

In my opinion it's just like when sitcoms have a fake laugh background. You got to remember you and I will watch the show either way. Others have to be drawn in. I suppose it's just another way to do so. Are you a operator? I also like when at the beginning of the season they hope in and equipment fires up on the first turn. Seemingly without a battery charge or any maintenance. I call bs on that part as well. In my experience that equipment especially the older stuff is a bear to grt going |

I love that show, it's just full of fail
Bering Sea Gold is wrapping up too. It's full of fail as well. |

I think it's funny that Todd is talking about Parker and says he doesn't belong on the mountain. Parker get's more gold in a season that Fatass does through the whole show. That dipshit can fuck off and die.

I'm sick of routine breakage or issues taking 2 weeks in TV episode to solve, things that are common and expected become 15 TV minutes of drama and fighting.
Just run the fucking mine, people want to see gold not crippled old fucker crying about day to day bullshit |

Got the DVR set, I refuse to watch live and forced to watch the commercials

I've watched the show intermittently over the last few seasons. Have the Hoffmans broken even with all of the money that they have invested in their equipment?

This in comparison to the first season where nobody earned more than 50oz. of gold. You just proved his point. Thats nothing. This equipment isnt cheap to run. Those are staggering losses, if the show wasnt helping out. I remember one season a poster here pointed out that if you paused it when parker and his mom were talking about a big diesel bill, the bill had something to the effect of "will volvo help out with this?" written on it. It was volvo or w/e equipment company was the sponser that year. I ran some rough numbers last year on parkers operation based off of equipment lease, repair, diesel, and minimum wage. From what i remember i was thinking he likely would have broke even without the show. Remember also that the gold is refined so they lose some of the weight in gold due to impurities, on top of that they dont get spot, the refiners take a cut. Also the show talks about total oz mined, but never subracts the landlords 10 percent cut from that total. They probably burn 500 dollars an hour just in fuel. My next door neighbor at work owns a road construction company. He went to Alaska during the recession to mine gold. He came back to build roads and never spoke of gold again. |
