I heard some American jerk at Cabelas talking to the clerk about a certain gun. When he found out that particular caliber wasn't legal to hunt with he said "then you shouldn't be allowed to sell it".

Europe had a tradition of only nobility owning land. So it makes sense that only nobles should own guns as well. Part of why people immigrated was we regarded all people as sovern. No matter your class before-here you could own land and you could own the means to defend
Of course then the peasents could look to their lord for security. Now most of the population appears to want to avoid personal responsibility and be peasents again |
