Very disappointed, thought Trump was smarter than that

what are the penalties for not honoring this agreement?

I ask, because that's the exact same question Trump is asking himself right now

How much water does this agreement hold? None? Then sign it.

The way the system is fixed now, if you aren't from one of the two parties I don't really think you can legally aquire all the delegates anyway.

Don't be too hasty. I'm guessing he signed it because he expects to win, and would then demand their support.

Now the GOP can dump thousands, if not 100s of thousands, of dollars into the Jeb Bush campaign

Using a play from the Dem book. If the other side was unfair in his prevention of gaining the nomination then the agreement would be void in the public's eyes anyway. Trump may be many things, but unsuccessful is not one of them.

Trump just gave up all insurance for when the GOP finds a way to oust him. He gave up all of his leverage.

They are going to destroy him now and usher in Jeb

What an incredibly stupid move. All of his supporters were expecting him to not sign it. He should have ripped it up on camera. Can't believe he gave into that 3rd grade BS

I agree....the threat of running 3rd party, even if he had no intention of doing so, made a great trump card (pun intended)

"The best way for the Republicans to win is if I win the nomination and go directly against whoever they happen to put up. And for that reason, I have signed the pledge," Trump said

The last successful third party run was in the 1850's.  Maybe he does know something about history.

This can work both ways. If Trump wins the nomination it will prevent the GOP from running Jeb third party to throw the election for Hillary.

GOP will likely never let him win the nomination. They will do anything including  brokered convention

But before, Trump held third party threat in his cards to destroy the GOP if they try to pull that crap

Now he has to openly endorse whoever the GOP chooses

Smart move, Trump had no intention of running 3rd party anyway,  he receives more publicity,  and his candidacy gains legitimacy making it harder for the GOPe to screw him overtly.

CNN: Advisers to the candidate have said all along that Trump was never seriously interested in launching an independent run, which is an arduous -- and costly -- process.

The pledge has not only put pressure on Trump to commit to the party, it's also forcing some of his rivals to promise to support Trump if he were to clinch the GOP nomination.

From my understanding this doesn't preclude him from running as a write-in candidate.

It's done, he thinks he will be the one.  The RNC will burn him is my bet.  Then he will do what he wants.  This is his out if he wants it.  If he gets the nod, he runs.  If they burn him, he can drop out or run.

It also means he's going to have to endorse Jeb (or Romney since they are trying to bring him back in with Jeb's failing numbers) when he gets "chosen for us"
