I'm selling some stuff on Facebook. I made a deal with a guy, my plate carrier for $200. We're supposed to meet tomorrow.
Along comes guy #2 offering $250. I'm leaning towards until my vest is in guy #1 hands and his money in mine, bidding is fair game. What do you think? |
Bust a deal, face the wheel.
How much is your honor and word worth? I would keep the original deal. |
Buyers are flakes.
You have a 50% chance either of them will show. Cash in hand get's it and I make that clear whenever I put something online to sell. |
Everything has some grey area, but in general I'd stick with my deal if your word and your personal ethics mean anything to you when nobody is looking.

Facebook? Deal is struck when items change hands. So your word means nothing? not on a Facebook buy/sell/trade page Yea, I don't know. . . . Facebook buying/selling is pretty much on par with Craigslist. First guy to put money in your hand. |

Facebook or Craigslist cash first wins. Some people don't show up.
With that said I never back out once I tell someone it's theirs. Always state first to show with payment gets it. |
No. My word is worth more than $50.
If you are a piece of shit, than the $50 probably means more to you. |

You already have the exchange planned? Keep your word. If the first guy fails to show sell to the second guy.

You made a deal, stick to it.
I sold an Eotech and told the guy if it wasn't what he wanted I'd refund his money. Found out it was older than I represented so I gave him his money back. Every one was happy. Got to keep your word, |
Contact the first guy and tell him you have a new offer at $250 and ask if he wants to go to $300.
Cash is King, if you say you want it and will pay me later, then someone else offers more cash right now, I guess you didn't want it bad enough. I have had too many buyers flake after promising me the world. No cash, no deal.

This guy right here speaks it. You say you are gonna do something, you do it, both parties. The fact the OP is trying to rationalize welching gets put on my "do not buy from in the EE" list. first guy to give you money it belongs to them.
had guy 1 paid you and was going to pick it up tomorrow that's different. |

Douche move.
timely thread for me. I posted an 81 FJ40 on classified adds on Sunday. had a couple tire kickers, then Tuesday I got a 1200 dollar offer on a 1500 dollar asking price. I accepted the offer with a Saturday pickup. I had 4 full price cash offers between making the deal and him picking it up. (which happened last night). I lost 300 bucks, but 300 bucks isn't worth being a douche. I have posted things I knew would be valuable and highly contentious. I will generally say "First person with cash wins", and will tell a buyer that makes a verbal offer that I will take the offer unless a higher one comes along. last year I sold an old snowmobile for 500, buyer was out of town and said he'd give me 700 cash if I guarantee him the sale. I took it and turned down a slightly higher offer the day before he picked up. |
I pride myself on keeping my word... I would stick with the agreement. Remember, what goes around comes around.
Good thing it's on Facebook. I'm told that would get someone locked in the EE here.
If it were me, once I shake hands on a deal it's a deal. Nobody likes a welsher. (Welcher?) |
your add should say "no holds, high offer takes it"
otherwise, bust a deal, face the wheel. |
Tell the $250 guy that it is sold, don't tell him for how much, and tell him if guy #1 backs out, then it is his, for $250. You don't dump the guy you made a deal with, especially since you've set a time for transfer goods!

First person to get me agreed money in my hand makes the deal. To many agree to pay and never pay or show.

I had instant karma on that a long time ago on craigslist. Similar numbers.
Crossbow asking $300, accept an offer for $250, he's on the way. Guy number two calls says he wants it for $300. Ok done! So I figure I will just ignore guy #1 (lived at an apartment complex, young and dumb he arrived) blowing up my phone... Buzzing my room. Took about 20-30 min and he finally left. 15 min later, guy #2 calls and says never mind because he was going with a cheaper one. Didn't sell crossbow, ended up selling later for $200. Moral of the story is stay true to your word and don't be an asshole |

Take the second offer's contact information and tell him that if the first guy backs out, it's his.
Once you agreed to the offer, that should have ended the matter.......why are you even considering this?
Is $50 all your honesty and trustworthiness worth? |
A deal is a deal. Now thrash yourself, OP, for even considering it.
