This article reminded me that it has been 20 years since Utah introduced its highly popular shall-issue permit, and almost 19 years since I got mine.
Since the majority of permittees have gotten their permits since Obama became president, I thought it would be interesting to see just how long everyone has had theirs. |

since our state took away our right to carry, without a permit.

Never had one. I've been a don't ask don't tell kinda guy since '04.
Now my state doesn't require one. |

Ten years, when I left California and moved to a place where it was legal.

March 5, 2014. I was in the first batch of 5,000 CCLs that IL issued. I've been carrying every day since.

About 5 and a half months. I wanted to do it right after I turned 21, but didn't end up actually doing it until shortly after my 23rd birthday .

1992, when the VA legislature kicked the holdout judges in the ass.
I have been carrying ever since and yet all of my firearms combined have still killed fewer people than Ted Kennedy's car. |

I live in suburban Cook County and carry everywhere. There were some issues with church (pastor is an anti but hasn't posted the no guns signs), and I can't carry at work, although it does stay in my car. I've even carried in Chicago the few times I've gone there since I got my CCL. I made sure to buy my new car last year at a dealership that wasn't posted and told the closer dealership that is posted why they lost a new car sale. Aside from the gov't buildings and dr office (because its affiliated with a hospital) no places I go are posted. |

For many years, before most states had CHLs I had a 'permit' given to me by The local Sheriff. Since the I have had a LA and TX permit for more than 10 years.

I got my permit in 1996. It was the 5th permit issued in my county of residence.

No permit required but I keep mine active. One of the small advantages of having a permit even though you don't need one is that it exempts you from the Federal Safe Schools Act. |

I finally got around to getting mine in early 2010.
Living in a large place like Houston with crazy shit occurring daily along with the fact that I rode my motorcycle all over the country(almost always had a gun with me then) I just finally got off my ass and got it done. My viewpoint today is if you are legally able to own a firearm it is foolhardy at the very least not to get this. |

I got my CCW permit as soon as I sobered up from my 21st birthday. That would be 37 years ago almost exactly since I just turned 58 a week ago.
Florida my ass, I'm too old for all that humidity, I'll stick with Arizona. |

13 or so. For years carried everyday everywhere without fail. Don't hardly carry anymore.

Mine had nothing to do with Obama, I just needed to get the money together (a DE CCDW can cost $500 by the time you jump through all the hoops) plus I could already OC without a permit.

Not sure anymore.
1986, 87 or 88. PA issued. you had to supply your own pictures then. |

You forgot a field...

I've had a carry permit since I was 21, 45 now. Although I can't get one here in California because I'm not active or retired LEO, a democrat politician or a celebrity, I do have carry permits in my home state of Washington, plus Utah, Arizona and Idaho.

The Utah law went into effect in the fall of 1994, which is right when I turned 21. I've had a Utah permit ever since then.

Since 2013...
Gonna try to talk my dad into going to a CCW class with me, so we can get our Utah permits (mainly for Minnesota carry) Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
