WGAF?
He paid for it. marines are probably happy for the free advertising. |

Sure, just don't tell people you're something you're not
If the hat/boots/pants are practical for where you live and work then wear 'em |
|
Meh.. my wife's cousins's husband served in the Army and did two tours in Afghanistan. When he came back I asked him if he had any hats and if he did if I could have one. The next time I saw him he handed me a hat. I don't wear it but I think it's pretty neat just the same.

It doesn't offend me that he didn't earn an EGA and wears that. Combined with the 107 pin he is certainly implying that he is something that he isn't, and while a poser, he is free to be a jackass until his heart is content.

You gonna tell some GI's mom she can't wear an 'ARMY' T-shirt?
Now THIS I gotta see! |

A guy I work with wears one of these with an embroidered EGA and pin of an M107 on the side. He has never served and doesn't claim to have, but he still wears it every day and supposedly enjoys it when people ask about it (heard this from another coworker). In your opinion, is it ok for a civilian to have an EGA or any other symbols/insigia on their clothing that they have not earned? I haven't served and I'm not about to go bring it up to the guy, but I would never wear something like that if I wasn't a marine. It just wouldn't feel right. http://www.armysurplusworld.com/custom/photos/desertdigitalbooniehat.jpg View Quote I gave my dad all my boonie hats that look exactly like that one. He never served and he loves them. It's not like he's telling people that he wore them in 'nam or anything. |

Former Marine grunt here. I could care less. He isn't laying claim to it. Obviously he admires the USMC and that is the kind of support we want for our military.
|
|
as long as he's not trying to pass off some shit he's never done who cares - they're pretty damn decent boonies
|
|
Sometimes my boys will wear some of my stuff, like a boony hat at the beach. But adults who weren't in the military and wear the uniform get to me some.
|
|
Don't care
My Dad wears a lot of my old BDUs and hats Just as long as they are not wearing a full uniform with a ton of ribbons And saying they served, I don't care |
|
Seriously no offense intended, but get over yourself buddy... In my opinion, no different than someone wearing a college jersey for a college they didn't attend.
|
|
who cares.
unless he is presenting himself as a marine it's no one's business. |
|
As long as they are honest about not serving I am fine with it.

Who Gives a Flying Fuck.
People who get butthurt over this shit are fucking retarded. People who get butthurt over stolen valor and video tape it are even more Artarded. |
|
Someone asked me the other day if I was trying too make people think I was special force because of my plain khaki boonie hat(no military anything on it or me ever).
I said what the fuck does this have to do with special forces? Looks like a fishing hat. |

Having never served, I'd feel kinda silly wearing uniform items that I'd bought for myself. If I could legitimately claim sentimental value based on it having been given to me by a relative or friend or that I'd traded my panties for it in the O'Club parking lot, that'd be one thing, wearing a purchased item seems just a little poseur-ish.
That said, I have an plain OD boonie hat that I bought to wear fishing. I always feel like a phony wearing it, but I love the thing. |

It obviously doesn't bother me, but I was just curious as to whether it's considered offensive or tasteless to wear stuff like that having not served. Seems like the consensus is that it's no big deal. |

People want to support the military
have a kid in the military have a grandkid in the military had a dad in the military had a granddad in the military have a nephew in the military etc. I don't see the problem. |

I don't mind one bit. Most of the people that really enjoy wearing those and are not poseurs probably have a true sense of patriotism and at one time supported us while deployed.

I won't wear an insignia that I haven't earned. However, as long as they aren't passing themselves off as something they're not or benefitting from it financially, I don't give a shit what other people wear.

Not nearly enough anger and outrage, so I reported this post to Don Shipley. Each of you should be getting a phone call shortly.

I wear an Eagles hat. Doesn't mean I'm trying to convince people I'm on the scout team

I wouldn't wear it but I don't care what other people do.
If he doesn't claim to have served then why does he enjoy it when people ask him about it? |
|
Freedom to do whatever the fuck you want to.
Just don't show up in a fucked up uniform claiming to be something you aren't. Beyond that, I couldn't give two shits less. |
|
Wear it if you want, but don't claim to be something you are not.

I've given my old gear to plenty of my family. Bro, dad, niece got covers, blouses, etc. Gave one of my boonies to my uncle that was in a different branch. Who gives a fuck?
ETA: My 11 year old niece is my hiking and outdoors buddy. She likes wearing one of my old ACU blouses with the name tape still on it when we go to da forest. I'm gonna slap that little bitch for being a poser next time this happens. |

It's one thing to simply wear it, it's another thing to claim it.
Tshirt shops all around the world sell Marine/Seals/whatever t-shirts.... many people wear them. Doesn't matter, what matters if they falsely claim that they were one of them. |
|
No different than all the 'my son is a marine' stickers and crap out there. As long as he's not gaining anything by it besides the lack of a sunburn im fine with it. He must look like a huge tool however.
