If the circumstances are as presented by the report, he may possibly be a thug with a badge. He already plead guilty to one crime and of course faced no consequences so far as his job was concerned. Let's see if this gets swept under the rug, assuming that there isnt more to the video that might be exculpatory.

Federal Heights officer admits fellow cop lost control

Officer Romero told the district attorney's office that Magness has a history of being aggressive with suspects. He said there have been several incidents when Magness physically pushed away from suspects and told "your time is up dealing with this suspect… someone else is going to take over."

He also said Magness had been told that he has anger issues. He said Magness was able to gain control and calm down but that sometimes a Sergeant or other officer would have to step in to get him to relax.

Pled guilty to attempted third degree assault. It appears 3rd degree assault carries up to a two year sentence so I assume attempted 3rd degree assault carries a penalty of a year or less and lets him keep his guns despite his history including breaking someone's arm while committing a crime.

ETA: Yeah by pleading him down to attempted 3rd degree assault which is a class 2 misdemeanor, his maximum sentence would be a year so he is not disqualified from owning guns federally.

They kept him on after he pled guilty to the first crime that involved breaking the other guy's arm. They didn't throw him under the bus he dove under it himself and even then the prosecutor swerved to minimize his injury.

News stories typically show the really terrible shit that rises above everything else, cases like this for instance. It can really fuck up people's point of view.

Bodycams are plenty handy but stories about criminals being criminals really doesn't make the news. How often do you see news stories about everything being normal?
