Becuase Walt lost his father at a young age to a terrible disease. He never really had a father figure to look after and watch out for him.

He started actually disliking the kid in the beginning. Jessie was a means to his end.

The closeness developed later from shared experience, and coincided with loss of closeness to his own son/family.

They also became more alike (both Jessie AND Walter changed).

And probably a pedophile who abused his dope dealing serial killer partner when teaching school.

Perhaps it was Walter White's one link to his humanity as his character became darker before his quasi-redemption.

maybe im full of shit
but I believe you will notice as his relationship with his family gets worse
his relationship with Jesse grows

I really didnt like it but I binged watched the entire thing over a couple weeks as I had time
if you think about it everything happens for a reason and fits together like one giant puzzle

What besides the pedo speculation is not true?

White killed and killed. Jessie killed.
They sold meth. In bulk.
Both deserved an ISIS-gruesome death.
In episode 2.
But I hate drug dealers.

The question I ask myself is:  what would have happened to Gus had he gone with his gut instincts and never hired Walter White?

The man was cautious and calculating and made the right call the first time.   I wonder how much that ate at him before his front half fell off.

Gus had already hired Gail.   Gail was the person who set up the lab under the laundry (we see Gus talking to Gail while he is unpacking equipment and setting up the lab in the first episode in season 4) and was already producing a product of high purity (96%).

Gus even told Gail something along the lines of  "For our purposes, 96% will do fine" when Gail was going on about the purity of Walter's product.

That makes it even worse as Gus already had a loyal, stable, qualified chemist and a lab all ready to go and then he hired Walt.   I assume Gus hired Walt thinking he would only work for him for 3 months (or a short period anyway) and Gail could learn from him along the way.

I wonder what Gus was thinking when Gail was murdered.

Up until the final season when he killed Mike and hired the Nazis to kill witnesses, every person Walt killed was either in self defense or as a preemptive strike against someone who was trying to kill him or Jessie.

It was a complex relationship for sure, but Jessie looked up to and basically worshipped Walter as a father. Walter, obviously having a difficult home situation with his real kids being taken from him by skyler. Walt also can celebrate their combined success with Jesse in ways he cannot with Walt JR. It was father-son on both sides with Walt and Jessie.

He did it to teach Jesse a lesson, he also did it so Jesse wouldn't leave him and so Jesse would come back to him and stop spending all of his time with Jane getting high.

Remember at the end Walter said he enjoyed it, he enjoyed cooking meth, he enjoyed the danger, and he probably enjoyed killing people.

Exactly, and he didn't kill her.  Her junkie-ass killed herself.  He just let it happen.  She was trying to fuck him over too.  If she hadn't tried to fuck him over he probably would have saved her.

Even Mike (Arfcom's hero) had it coming.  The only person I feel bad for was Gale Boetticher.

You watched 2 episodes about these characters.
The people discussing the show watched 62.

You missed out on some very significant character development.  Frankly, you have no business discussing the characters based on how little you know about them.

I agree with this.  Who was he (Gus) and what was in his past that kept a big-shot Drug lord from executing him right after he killed his partner and best friend?

I don't really care for spin offs but I would not mind one showing the rise and fall of Gustavo Fring.
