There is an active thread in WAHTF - several Form 1's just denied in the last day or two.
WAHTF Another - Article at The Truth About Guns, One year ago, Washington state’s government passed legislation finally legalizing the ownership of short barreled rifles. That law was duly signed by the governor, and went into effect 90 days later. Since then, the ATF has been happily approving Form 1s (applications to make and register an NFA firearm) for short barreled rifles. That is, until yesterday. It seems that the ATF has now decided to stop approving all Form 1s for SBRs in the state of Washington because, as they claim, the law allows people to purchase — but not MAKE — an SBR. And they’re citing a legal statute to back that up… that doesn’t exist. Moar at TTAG |

Hey, at least it says refund processing. They have $400 from me that has been outstanding for 6-8 months.

FBHO
FEH FBATFE The ATF needs to be disbanded and everyone involved needs to be tried for treason. |

They pulled similar shit in MD because our new AWB banned rifles under 29", but did not specify how that length was measured. ATF assumed shortest possible configuration for many months until they were brow-beat into recognizing it was measured in the longest possible configuration.

I wonder if it would have even been on the ATFs radar had everyone not made a fuss, over analyzing the wording of the RCW.

Shouldn't it be easy to amend the law? If the SBR law easily passed in WA they should be able to clarify it.

So what's the shittier gov agency, ATF, NSA, or TSA? Seems pretty close.

I'm so glad that the ATF continues to take it upon itself to interpret laws, especially those not from the federal government. If my state passes restrictions on what they could turn down an application for, I doubt they'd change policy.

Does the statute specifically ban the construction of an SBR?
Then fuck you, ATF. |

There is some fucky rule in MA about short-barreled shotguns. You can have a factory SBS but cannot make one or even buy a converted one.
Kind of reminds me of that, except WA is a state where people actually care about gun rights. |

Yep 140 MGL 121 defines a "sawed-off shotgun" as: any weapon made from a shotgun, whether by alteration, modification or otherwise, if such weapon as modified has one or more barrels less than 18 inches in length or as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches Cant form 1 a SBS, has to be manufactured as a SBS to be "legal". Fuck that state, glad im gone. |
