Seriously.
My son applied froglube as advertised to a new AR back in February. Today he went to shoot it and it would not even hand cycle rounds. The froglube gummed up the BCG so it would not chamber a round due to friction. We tried to oil the BCG with a patch and the BCG got covered with white cotton fibers spreading the oil on top of the gummed up froglube. I spread the oil with my fingers and then it would chamber a round, but the round would stick in the chamber 100% of the time. Froglube works well when fresh, but after 3 months is worse than dry. I am no longer using it. Period. Back to Mobile 1 for me. ETA: This is the second AR that it has gummed up to be non-functional. The first one I thought it was an anomaly, but after this I see a pattern. |

Y u no like scented banana oil?
In before the "You're not doing it right" responses. |

Good to know. Reminds me a need a better way of dealing with the Mobile 1 than sticking my finger in the quart bottle.

Been using Breakfree CLP since 1982, when I was issued my first rifle, an M16A1. Still works great for me. |
I never really understood the hype. I got a free sample and tried it on my TRP. Instantly bricked it.

Obviously you failed to follow the instructions or sacrifice the goat properly during the lubrication ritual.

Full synthetic motor oil does everything those expensive oils at the gun stores do, and costs way less per fl oz.
People take this shit way too seriously. All your doing is applying a liquid that makes the surface slippery so the parts move freely. IT'S SIMPLE. |
Why would you use a lubricant made for amphibians on your rifle?
After hours of reading about different gun lubes, I continue to use the tried and true Breakfree CLP. I own sever guns with no visible signs of corrosion and no mechanical related issues.
Was this the Froglube CLP? I have some of that that I've just bought this month.

I've not used FL on anything other than pistols, but it has performed well in that application.
Is it unseasonably cold? |
I had the same experience. I applied Froglube paste to an AR (heated metal surfaces with a heat gun ahead of time), wiped off excess materials, and put the rifle away. 10 months later when I went to pull it out I couldn't pull the charging handle back because the BCG was stuck in the upper receiver.
I had to utilize the mortar technique to get it to move. It ran fine after that, but I don't trust Froglube anymore for my defensive firearms. It's a damn shame, because I liked being able to use non-toxic chemicals for cleaning/lube (and the wife didn't complain about the smell). |

Like i mentioned in another thread a while back, lube tech peaked in the 60's and everything is just reformulated versions of whats come before.
Froglube is all marketing. veg oils have been around in a long time, and while have some merits, longevity isn't one of them. (I.E. Castor oil in race engines) |
Wow, sounds like shit. I'll continue to just not oil my guns with anything. They work fine.
I thought this was going to be a "I used froglube on my AK" thread.

I've been using Frog Lube CLP Paste in conjunction with Safariland Breakfree CLP for a while now with good results. The Breakfree is really a superior lubricant to Frog Lube, but it evaporates too quickly. The Frog Lube Paste is not as good as a lubricant, but it will stick around and act as a surface protectant/rust inhibitor practically forever. Between the two I think it's worked well.
That said, I've used those two because that's what I have. Mobil-1 Synthetic is really the best gun lube around. |
I put Mobile one in a breakfree clp bottle. Also sometimes use breakfree clp when I cant find my mobile one in my gun junk. Frog Lube looks like muzzleloading bore butter just repackaged.
Frog Lube is garbage. I had the same problem as the OP on several guns I used it on. Threw the remainder of what I had in the trash. Mobil 1, or any synthetic light weight oils, work great.

Google froglube mold.
Who needs to deal with that crap when there are so many other effective lubes available these days that work fine and are easy to apply without performing a ritual? |

I have been switching between two products. Rand CLP and Stihl Ultra synthetic two-stroke oil. When I run out of Rand I'll just use the Stihl. It is a full synthetic and is designed to work in a combustion chamber. I actually think that the bolt tail and bolt carrier bore stay cleaner when I use the Stihl Ultra.
