For the same reason new Suburbans are 70k and new full size trucks are 50-60k.

Because people (not me) will pay it.

For stupid people who think it is a Landcruiser.

That is not a Landcruiser.

But I'll call it that if I got it free, then sell it to a fool who thinks it really it.

Why? It is their top of the line SUV.

There are no trim packages because all the 'options' are standard.

Sadly, 80K is not that outrageous in an economy and mindset where you see min wage folks financing new cars in the 20K range.

It's a 70 series Land Cruiser.

Like they've made for the last 40 years in Australia.

V8 diesel, three locking diffs (F, C, R), live axle suspension, manual transmission, factory snorkel.

That's as Land Cruiser as a Land Cruiser can get.

Styling is definitely love it or hate it, but there are very few vehicles that can do things like this stock while seating 8 with drinks cooling in the center console.  They are pricey for sure, it would be nice if they had trim packages like overseas, but they only come 1 way here in the states.  The computer controlled traction control aids can dig a 200 series out of sand and mud when buried to the frame.

It's Toyota's most expensive vehicle.  You want decent, reliable and affordable?  Toyota offers sells a $14K Yaris.

Who the hell can't afford $650/mo. for 120 months

The 6th gen (if Toyota wants to make one) may not be, but that's still a year or two off.
