No desire to go to airlines as I like being home every night and the salary plus hourly is nice. |

Once you get out of there you'll see what you've been missing. That would be like me flying at a drop zone for the rest of my life, no way. lol |

We are losing pilot's so fast to the majors that we can't keep up with attrition and our classes are full each month. You're nuts not to go. I've seen guys in their 50's come to our regional just to get a few years in to move on. If all you want to do is instruct though, more power to ya. In the end its all about being happy, so good on ya. |

What is the most wind you would let a student solo a C172 in? What is the most you would fly in?

No desire to go to airlines as I like being home every night and the salary plus hourly is nice. Initially the pay is much better, not by much. It doesn't take long to make more than most flight instructors, especially with how things are today. In fact, there's no question anyone flying for an airline is going to make tons more, not even factoring in retirement and bennies, than any entry level job like instructing. That wasn't meant to be condescending, just facts. |

Are your balls made of hardened steel, or just regular steel?

IIRC when I soloed it was 28kts, but only about 15 degrees from center line. I ran out of rudder once on a landing, probably the only thing that ever scared me in training. |

No questions here. Just a hearty kudos to you for enjoying your job. I'll bet you're good at it. My instructor was great. He solo'd me at 4-6 hours, and I got my PPL at 35.1 hours (Part 141 school). It was then that I began the process of really learning to fly. It's been years now since I last flew PIC (wife and kids came along, etc), but I'll never forget my instructor, nor will I forget those special times. I've got a good friend who's a 15 year NetJets captain, who keeps his CFI current. Any time I'm ready to resume flying... he'll be there to welcome me.

We have a large Chinese student population so that is always challenging but very rewarding to watch them grow. 4 to 6 hours to solo is awesome! |

See here: http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/medical_certification/specialissuance/hypertension/ Thanks for the link and information. I used to go up on occasion many years ago when I was young. The pilots would let me have the "controls" for a few minutes. They wanted me to learn to fly but I thought it was too expensive. I was young and stupid. Back then it was only about $5,000 to get a pilots license flying C152 and C172 aircraft. |
