Don't be fooled, I'm not an actual astronomer.
Just an armchair one, hence the avatar.

ETA::Its pictures like this that shows up how we can know allot about the history of a solar system without having to witness the history of a single solar system.

Think of it for example if aliens could take a picture of every person on earth at one and only one instant in time.

They wouldn't know everything, but they could figure out allot about human behavior and life cycles.

bunch of big ones. looks like all those direct imaged are larger than Jupiter. I wonder if they can't see one smaller than that.

You mean like a picture of the universe when it was 400,000 years old?

Well, I was just talking about figuring out the history of the a system with images of "close" neighboring stars.

The "seeing far back in time" thing is a whole different ballgame.

To be fair, that image does show how the system of galaxies clumped into areas of localized density.

I showed her the Andromada image and let her see for herself that by the numbers... There most likely is a dragon planet...

Since what we see is light years old history, how much warning do we get when our universe has some final ending?

Light seems to lie to us, not telling us what's now - it tells us what was.

Just thinking out loud, actually thought of this last week - but it took this long to get posted.

Right now the odds are pointing towards the universe ending in heat death long after the sun dies out.  Basically the the universe will expand faster than gravity can pull matter together.  If humans don't colonize other planets (which is impossible for the foreseeable future) the sun will kill us if we or an impact don't do us in.

ETA: Evolution could do us in in a number of ways too.

No warning.

Any universe ending event or phase shift (has happens before) happens at the speed of light..

Can't see it coming until its too late.

Good point.  You cant see light coming.  Maybe we will have a warning detector for our doom.

Not most likely, virtual certainty that there's a planet with dragons.  There's room enough for anything in the Universe, which means that there's room enough for everything.

I guess.
Threads that do well include:

1) Threads about serious breaking news stories (even better if they have live feeds and press conferences)

2) Threads where people argue.

3) Threads that people can post their own stories, pictures, links, videos, or experiences.

Beyond that, specially for smaller news stories that don't involve controversy, you get a couple pages and the thread dies. Its the way of the internet.

So, that would also mean there's planets that are exclusively gay/tranny also?

No that would be an evolutionary dead end.  Bisexual trannies would be more likely.

Just wait till we get closeups of Pluto.  The probe is about as far away from pluto right now as the earth is from the sun:
