What are you willing to give up to buy that transferrable, pre-ban machine gun?

Illegal drugs (not that I take any anyway).

Nothing.

Owning a MG would be cool, but the prices of them make them not even desirable for me.  I would rather shoot in semiauto mode anyways.

Pretty much nothing.

Full auto is fun.. but the novelty wears off pretty quick.  Then you just have something that is going to cost about $300+ every time you go to the range since it goes through so much ammo.

I've had the good fortune to shoot enough of other peoples' MGs to get it out of my system, so I probably wouldn't sacrifice much.

On the other hand, a cool old belt-fed like a Vickers or Maxim? Or maybe a Lewis or a '28 Navy Thompson overstamp? I'd lust after them but still wouldn't bite.

Rather put my money into suppressors or something.

I guess I wouldn't mind having either a greasegun or a sten.

I'd have to give up pretty much living to buy the MG of my dreams (Stoner with all the variants/accessories), and I don't shoot the ones I have now. So I'll say "No."

This post hits the nail on the head. I have owned three and although they're cool, buying ammo gets old quick.

Is that Nolo's deal?
Link Posted: 1/27/2015 7:53:17 PM EDT
[#29]
I mean, I don't have a new car...      *shrugs*

I have a Colt M16A1 that I got a smoking deal on and a Fleming sear I picked up in September that I bought for a little under market.  I drive my older car, but honestly, there's nothing that I want right now to replace it if I were to sell them off.

I don't think they're a novelty.  I haven't gotten tired of my M16.  It's still a hoot to shoot and it's always fun to take it to the range alone or with others who have never shot one before.  But for some people, they get bored of it really easily.  To each his own I suppose.

I will say that I normally don't get too bored of things people say I'll get bored of.  I had a jetski not too long ago, that I actually sold to buy the M16.  I loved it and I think I would still have it.  But I will say that without someone else who had one to ride with, it got a little repetitive after a while.  It's not the same for me with the machine gun.

Also, I don't put a ton of ammo through it.  150 rounds is probably an average day for it, and I take it out probably once a month.  So what, $60 or so in ammo?  Not a big deal in the grand scheme.

As far as life sacrifices, I haven't really made many.  That money would probably be in savings right now if not for the guns and they're appreciating at a reasonable rate at the moment.  I have considered getting out because of the pending lawsuit Nolo has going at the moment, but though I support it, I'm just not supremely confident it's going to come down in our favor.  I'll watch it closely.

But seriously, the only thing I would have diverted that money to otherwise would be a new car and right now, outside of a 911 or a C7 Z06, I really don't have any interest in anything else.

In my opinion MGs are more of a usable investment than a toy. If all of my other investments were squared away, I'd consider saving for one.

I have to echo the "nothing" sentiment.

As others have said full auto is fun for a once in a while thing, but the novelty would wear off fast for the dollars to fun ratio.

Now... if full auto was a same-cost option to a regular firearm, that is a completely different thing.

Nah.

The most enjoyment I got out of mine was letting new people shoot it.

"You can't have a machine gun!"

"Sure you can!  Here toy go!"

nope.  Machine guns are neat but I really have very little interest in owning one (or feeding it with ammo) especially at the prices they command currently.

Considering my lifestyle is pretty much all about keeping a roof over my family's heads and food in their stomachs, with a few toys and hunting trips mixed in, I don't have anything I would give up.

Fired M16, Uzi, and I think maybe a couple other full auto guns. I wouldn't pay current transferable prices to get my hands on one. Probably wouldn't even pay much more than what the equivalent semi auto gun costs.
