A Cambridge law firm, Irwin Mitchell, quizzed 7,000 people on the
issue as part of Road Safety Week and the results reveal that much of
the population is well versed in correct road etiquette and the laws –
though there is still a large number who are unaware of correct
behaviour.

Of the eight questions asked, however, cyclists scored 70 per cent correctly with drivers scoring only 58 per cent.

If you pointed to the cyclists, you fail.

Cycling actually makes you smarter regardless of the country. Cycling a lot will turn you into an ubermench.

http://ccbike.org/articles/can-biking-make-you-smarter/

Dr. Hillman’s group investigated the immediate effects of exercise by
having 20 school-aged children complete cognitive tests in two sessions,
one after 20 minutes of aerobic exercise on a treadmill, and one
without the exercise.  The results showed that aerobic exercise
increased performance on academic tests (reading comprehension,
spelling, and arithmetic), in addition to increasing accuracy and
decreasing response time on a cognitive function test.

When riding you do have a vested interest in safety.  Our numbers are probably lower since fewer of our cyclists are responsible adults.  But then many of our drivers are idiots so it's anyone's guess.

Yup.

Definitely a cyclist mentality.    Because all that entitlement mindset really counts when you get squashed by any asshole in something that does have lug nuts.

Bike<smartcar<regular car<big car<big truck<18 wheeler.

See the direct correlation to lug nuts and mass?

It is okay if you do not.   Your cute angsty troll thread will doubtlessly have others try to explain it to you.

Oh but your pride and sense of well being from all that healthy exercise helps you feel confident that your choice is the smarter choice?

But go ahead and argue.

I got hit by 2 cars and a golf cart growing up as a kid before I learned to try to grow eyes out the back of my head and be wary of traffic.  And I deserved it every fucking time because I was at fault when my dumb ass put myself in a place that a bigger, heavier, faster object was trying to be.

Most other bikers seem to be tempting fate/darwinism with the shit they pull.   Its okay, 4k+ pounds at 25-40+mph versus your 150-300 pounds at 10-15mph.  Be as entitled to your behaviors as you want, it only takes one asshole, drunk, sociopath, or texting while driving type to make you a grease stain.

From today's San Diego Union-Tribune:

http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/nov/22/bicyclists-drivers-crashes-statistics/

In accidents where the investigators could determine fault, bicyclists were at fault more than half the time.

Bicycles aren't exempt from the laws of physics, which is exactly what the lug nut rule is trying to teach you.

The more lug nuts a vehicle has, the bigger it is (most likely) and the more damage it will inflict on you when it hits you.

Word isn't back yet on which group I'm in, but I sure as shit stay in the bike lane, or off the road damn road entirely. I see bikes on the wrong side of the road, blowing stop lights and stop signs all the time. riding on the sidewalk is against the law here but they do it anyway and pretend they are a pedestrian when state law says they are subject to all traffic laws.

Because cars kick all the road debris into the bike lane and riding there will give them a flat tire.

I was part of the retarded group as a kid.

I could hit 25-27mph on flat ground with a 52 tooth chain ring.   Couldnt sustain it forever but it was possible.    Fastest down hill I ever hit was 52mph on a steep paved road in Ventura Ca.   This is with cars parked on the road and road traffic.   13-15 years old and no helmet.

Best thing that ever happened to me was getting my license.    Back then I tended to "bounce" from wrecks only to get up and keep going.    Somewhere along the lines my mass reached a point where I fit into "sack of potatos" in terms of hitting ground.

My view of most cyclists isnt that they are a commuter trying to get some place.   Rather they are either "enjoyment" minded socialites where everyone around them comes second or they are intense "atheletes" focusing intently on a work out goal.    In the end they behave in ways that forces everyone to deal with them because their shit is more important than everyone elses shit.

Ca just passed a 3 feet law where cars must yield 3 feet of space to a bike.

That is fine and dandy if the biker is where they belong, close to the curb/road side.    Problem is they often align as far from the curb as possible.    The former biker in me recognizes those who are deliberate dick bikers when I sees them.
