So the internet is up in arms about this kid shooting an albino deer on a hunting trip. He as far as I can tell did so legally.

I don't see anything wrong with this, what says the hive?

It's illegal to shoot one in WI, but if it were legal, I'd shoot one. It's going to die anyways, so it might as well hang on my wall or stand in a full mount.

I know a place that raises white deer, but I don't think they are true albinos.

Sure I'm happy for the kid and I suspect he has not been taught any way but to use a crossbow.

I'm old school and crossbows were only able to be used by handicapped folks unless it was gun season in my state.

Now lots (if not most) folks use them since they became legal and it's cheapened archery season "bragging rights" in my eyes.

We did not allow them on our leases during archery season.

When I fucked up my arm a couple of years ago, I could go and get a medical waiver to use a crossbow during bow season.
Of course, they were made legal for everyone shortly thereafter.

I fucked up my left arm in such a manner that I can't use a bow right handed anymore.

There are a few in my area, as well as a few white and a few piebald that apparently are all related to the same line. I'm indifferent on shooting one. I think it's kinda cool they are around and wouldn't shoot it just so the genes are passed on.

I don't buy the "ZOMG they are going to die because they are white", as these deer have been around a while and seem successful enough.

I think it is a PA thing.. But I do know someone who did shoot one, and it was about 15 or so years since he did get another deer. Same place that another of our friends and myself, pretty much each got at least one deer a piece every year. So yea, I don't think I would shoot one. But I ain't going to have a fit if someone else does.

aside from that one he shot, I have only seen one other, and it was mixed, light brown and white. ( kind of like cow spots ) It was an 8 pointer

There is a "deer farm" by Grass lake Mi that has several of them. Anyone who wants to see one can pays your money and see them. I think he has 1/2 dozen of them or so.

Called Calderone Deer museum.
