Talking politics with a buddy of mine who is extremely right of center and I find out his wife of 20 years is a hardcore liberal. I'm talking raise the minimum wage, free college, open borders, pro welfare type liberal. I asked how he does it and he said they just don't talk politics. Since the way we live our lives is often directly affected by our political beliefs I found this very hard to pull off. What say the hive?

For those who have been married long term to a leftist tell us how you keep your sanity?

As someone who is more moderate in most things and I would like to think very open and understanding of others positions I think that I could if I loved the other person enough. After a while you both would have "made your points" and agreed to agree to disagree on some topics and would move on from there, I would think is how it would work.

Or even a 19 year old Ann Margaret.

My SO now is pretty seriously naive about the ways of the world and it's ALMOST a dealbreaker.

So, a committed tard? NFW.

I don't see how your buddy does it--I've never met a liberal who was able to keep from injecting politics into EVERYTHING.

I don't see how that could work in the long term.  You are talking about differing core values here.  I wouldn't subject myself to a lifetime of that crap.  I imagine raising kids with someone that different would be a nightmare.

From my experience any woman obsessed with politics 'left or right' tends to be cunty.

I don't think I could be married to liberal though. She's looking for free shit from government or a man. When she's done with you you'll pay for sure.

Of course not. The gulf between our world views would prevent me from falling in love with her in the first place. It's an impossibility.

Liberals are meant to be fucked, not married.

The marriage will end when kids show up anyways, if money doesn't end it first.

Conservative will want to save, liberal will want to spend.

Conservative will want discipline, liberal will want to be friends with the kid.

Keep her in the kitchen!

Really though in my experience the girl will be a hardcore lib until she finds the right guy and she is willing to give up certain aspects of her life style to live one as wifey. Don't have time to attend womens rights rallies when junior is running around

Eta: before I was hit by the ARF curse, I dated a lib for almost 3 years. She was pro-gun, pro freedom by the time she moved in with me. Became a fan of having the man to protect her.

Nope, dated one once. Never again.
If we had a fight it wasnt like arguing with a normal person, they try to lure you in to violence or are violent to try to get a reaction.
Never dated a conservative girl that acted like that.

I was talking to this guy I've worked with for eight plus years the other day at work. He told me his wife won't allow any guns in the house, even tho her father is a collector. He has been married for more than fifteen years I believe and is around 45 years old. His wife is ok with their young daughter deer hunting but won't let him buy her a rifle. I didn't ask him about any other liberal disorders she has but that alone would be a dealbreaker for me.

Yes.  Met my wife when we were mid-teens and while aware that our families looked at things differently, political differences really weren't an issue.  We weren't really into politics.  After we got married, differences started to come up, but she's converted over a few years.  Now, if meeting someone new, well into adulthood and a die hard liberal?  Nope. They aren't going to change at that point and I'm not going to try.

Of course not.

Of all the phenomenal advice given here on GD about relationships, even no amount of wisdom could amount to being unequally yoked with someone who basically thinks with a mentality that is a polar opposite of me.

I wouldn't even try to start dating.

I'm lucky I don't have to---I plan on proposing to my GF in the next couple weeks

In order to fall in love with a woman, I have to respect her.

Although nearly everyone has some qualities I can respect, it's the attributes that would cause me to lose respect that are at issue.
