There is a lot of hooks to do spinoffs here. Hopefully they do.

Only 8 episodes too. Gonna wrap fast. That and a 7 year time jump, hopefully not over a shark. Hate to have it end badly.....

Chalky and Nucky are the only two interesting characters left really.
Looks like we might see some of Jillian, but without Jimmy I don't think her character does that well. |
|
So what's the real story? Cast wants too much money? Writer/producer/director wants to do something else?

All the characters I was interested in or liked are dead. I was pissed when they killed Jimmy Darmody and Mr. Harrow off. Since they weren't historical figures they had to go eventually. The 7 year time jump is going be hard to pull off and 8 episodes just doesn't seem adequate to tie up all the story lines in a satisfying manner. I'm getting ready for a big letdown and I love this series. |

The previews look like its going to be the end of prohibition and Nucky is looking to make a clean break with his skin intact.

Hopefully it ends well. I didn't like last season very much. Nucky has to be the most boring, uninteresting main character ever.

Did enjoy the scene when Jimmy threw him over the balcony in season 2 |

One of the show's writer said Nucky Thompson is NOT Nucky Johnson. I expect we'll see Nucky T. get nuked.... The writers also said the time jump skips a lot of "boring" gangster crap. Sure, lots of shoot outs and massacres, but "interesting" stuff didn't really start up again until 1931, according to them.... |

It started out a little slow. Who was the guy that was shadowing Nucky and the Senator? Was he the Senator's bodyguard or Nucky's? Where was Eli? He is my favorite of the show. Van Alden? Al Capone??

What did chalky do again to go to prison this latest time?
I am too lazy to try an remember the past season |

I have not watched series, but I have a question
Why would they film a scene in one of my commercial swimming pools that is 30'x50' by 12 feet deep? Had to go back next morning and re-install ladders, diving boards Also this was on this morning http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/steve-buscemi-leading-man-on-screen-supporting-character-in-life/ |

Havana is an interesting setting at this time.
Myer Lansky was starting to establish his connection with Cuba in this era, which will have ramifications until the late 1950s and early 1960. The demonstration you see that the police break up was in favor of Grau San Martin, who was a civilian politician who was being suppressed by dictator General Machado, a US supported strong man in the vein of Trujillo in the Dominican Republic, Somoza in Nicaragua, Duvalier in Haiti. Grau San Martin will eventually become president and will be a part of Cuban politics for the next 30 years. I think Generalissimo Fulgencio Batista overthrows him in a coup in the early 1950s, and Grau expects to come back to complete his term when Batista leaves....but Castro was having none of that in 1959. In 1931, Batista was just a master sergeant. The US had wanted to get out of the occupation business, so the Marines were not pulled out until they built up a constabulary/full time national guard/army to maintain stability and keep the private militias in check. All of the above mentioned countries wound up with constabularies that turned into armies, and their generals became dictators. However, Cuba took the US model to heart and built up a real, US-style NCO corps. Cuban NCOs of the 1920s/early 1930s were so good, Cuban officers got pretty lazy. In the next year or so after the events of the first episode of this season, there will be political instability, the Cuban NCOs will revolt, kick out the officers, and take over. Batista will evolve from sergeant, to self commissioned colonel, to strong man pretty quickly. He will become president, write the 1944 Constitution, step down when his term ends, and then, years later, take over the country, allow Myer Lansky to make a lot of money, and fail to execute Fidel Castro when he gets the chance. |
